Stories
Wollundry Rotarians headed en masse to Fitzhardinge Street aka Wagga Wagga City Airport. Flights had been suspended for an hour or two while the facilities were inspected, and the Pizzas were devoured. Ken Taylor provided a briefing on the history of Silvertone Electronics, and then an extensive update on the status of the industry and his position and achievements since coming to Wagga Wagga.
The business was purchased about 12 months ago from industry founder and icon, Bob Young, who at 76 years, felt it was time to bale out. Ken relocated the operation from Sydney to Wagga Wagga, and continues to develop the aircraft and the payload systems.
The UAV on stands in Ken's workshop is the Flamingo, rated as 25kg class, and entry level into serious unmanned aerial vehicles. It weighs 11kg dry weight, carries up to 5.6litres of fuel, and has a 6 to 8 kg payload. Top speed is around 150 km / hour, and endurance varies based on weight and speed.
Questions asked by Wollundry members led Ken into much of the material that he covered, with interest on who uses UAV's, and the legal requirements and responsibilities of usage. CASA is the regulator for using UAV's and stipulate that they must be in line of sight, in daytime only, must not fly over crowds, and not be used for commercial purposes.

Ken Taylor said
The Aviation theme was evident with this group of enthusiasts, all knowing the difference between an aileron and the flaps, and all lamenting that their fuel economy was well above what Ken could achieve.

Ken had prepared a presentation for todays meeting, and it can be accessed at this address:

President John opened the meeting, and welcomed the guests. Grace went well - the acoustic was helpful, and the meeting proceeded in a relaxed manner, as you would expect out on the job, a vocational visit. Franzi reported that she had visited the snow with host parents, the Hillis's and gave us the next German word in her course -" learn 52 German words in a year."

Formalities were kept to a minimum, and announcements too, but here are the items that we all need to note.

Mark Hillis is in the final stages of organizing the Sailing Weekend on Sydney Harbour, and has seven acceptances too many for the boats already chartered. There are about seven sailors who have yet to pay for the sailing, so the decision to be made - Cut the late payers, or seek further acceptances for another boat. The wording of this conundrum is the bulletin editors!!!!

Michael Merrylees was seeking a couple of helpers to cook and serve breakfast at Apex Park, Lake Albert on Saturday, 6th Sept, from 9.00am until 10.00am. This is to support the Melbourne Cup Trophy tour. Stepping up to help will be John Ferguson, Michael Merrylees, Frank Fuller, John Ireland and Wal Paton. The clubs new trailer will get a run, and the proceeds will go to Rotary.

David Benn has once again been pruning the olive trees, and created a manmade object almost visible from space, 12 foot high and 40 metres around - a bonfire primed to be lit on Sunday 21st Sept, and when its alight it will be seen from space. David has already booked the Rugby Male Choir, and they will soon commence rehearsals of the Jose Feliciano song, "Light My Fire". David acknowledged that he was on the Wollundry Social Committee, and the rest of the group will, at some stage, be told about this activity.

Phil McIntosh announced that there would be another meeting of the cycle race committee later on Tuesday, and the response audible around the room was ".......not again". The effort going into the inaugural event is enormous, and greatly admired. Keep up the great work fellows.

It was this stage that we learned that the Pizzas had arrived, salads and drinks were available, garlic bread was on hand, so we adjourned to the eastern end of the room to sate our hunger.

Paul Milde, in his role as Secretary, announced member commitments and Rosters.

Neil Pinto presented the Market Report, and was so glowing in his evaluation of the OIC, that an uninformed neutral observer would have assumed that Neil was reporting on behalf of some great "Kim il Jun" style leader. This was not the case, and references to "great leader" were merely acts of imagined grandeur.
The team helping Neil was: Rob Fuller, Richard Braid, John Egan, Hugh Campbell and Pat Ingram.

The weather was a foretaste of spring, and the response from stallholders and browsers alike was heartening - they came out of hibernation and paraded around the carpark  - lapping up the sun and adding some vitality to the Sunday Market.
The Financials:       Gate         $579.85
                            Stalls        $300.00

Neil reported that a stallholder claimed he had advised three previous OIC's that the soap dispenser in the toilet block was empty. Neil refilled the dispenser, and advised that a bulk supply was stored in the container.
Only one of these men was the OIC at Sunday Market.
