This meeting is the fourth for the year, and President John is getting into full swing. As today was budget day, noone brought a guest.
Pres. John read parts from a letter from Heidi Schuter, who has just returned from the Euro tour that all European exchange students take. It was very comprehensive. She has been to Cologne, Bruges, Paris, Barcelona, Avignon, Monaco, Andorra, Sarzana, Cinque Terra, Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Jesolo, Venice, and of course, some of Austria. Amazing. Heidi really appreciates the "life changing" experience and says a huge thanks.
He also highlighted some articles from RDU, particularly the great news that Australia has committed $100m to PolioPlus. This is in addition to the $10m given by the previous government, and makes for a great leap forward in the battle against Polio. There was one article very critical of one aspect of the International Convention that deserves attention as well. "Rotary Shoots Itself in the Foot" has a lot to say!
As today was a Club Assembly we had no guest speaker. However the Twin Jim show presented us with a well thought out budget and highlighted areas we should be concentrating upon. There were several questions from the floor, but the budget passed without modification. (Eat your heart out, Tony!)
Paul Milde, in his role as Secretary, announced member commitments and Rosters.

For over 30 years, Interplastve supported over 70 surgeons and nurses to continue part of their training in Australia, sent over 600 volunteers on medical programs, provided over 37,000 consultations and performed over 21,000 life-changing operations.
Following the success of James last week, and the unavoidable absence of the sergeant of the day, President John removed money from our pockets with a Tennis Quiz. The last man standing was Doug Conkey, who fought hard to beat off the challenge from Michael Merrylees. Pres John was running out of questions.
Michael Georgiou passed on greetings from Billy Zac, a former member of the club. Billy is very impressed with the way the club is continuing to fund raise, and its growth. Bill introduced many members to the club in his time, including John Gray, Michael Knight and myself among others.. Marks Fish Shop was a great place to meet and recruit!!
Jim Gibson informed us of a Prostate Cancer "Biggest Lunch" which is coming on the 5th September. More details will follow and we will keep you informed, but the list of speakers is impressive. So far the Australia wide organisation has raised $1.4 m.
PP John Smith spoke of a Flyaway to Birdsville, Broken Hill, the Dig Tree, and Tilpa Downs (not in that order!) If you would like to take part there may be some seats available. Give him a call.
PP Phil is about to begin organising the Tour de Bicycle, There is a meeting tonight and we will no doubt hear more of this next week. This will be a new venture for us, and could well become a really big fundraiser!
In the meantime, Assistant Secretary Laurie Blowes was doing all he could to look inconspicuous on the top table.
Yachting Weekend
DON'T FORGET Mark Hillis is organising another Harbour event this October. Actual dates haven't been settled, but check your calendar for October. Its a top weekend.
And please let him know if you know for certain that you can't attend.

Something good to report at last. The team led by Tim Macgillycuddy, and including James Hamilton, Nick Leywood, Kerry Pascoe, Kevin Roben and Paul Milde succeeded in raising $686. It was a cold morning and only twenty stall holders braved the cold. But the coffee was good and the subsequent spread was exemplary!
Saturday Markets were not well attended and the weather was foul. The OIC and his team wisely decided not to charge the faithful, and continued to operate. The tents were saturated and are drying, as were the table cloths.
The team were Gerry Gerlach OIC and Jim Gibson, Bob Willis, Andy Irvine, Frank Fuller, Phil McIntosh, Wal Paton Kevin Roben, Paul Gianniotis, Pat Ingram.
