President's Report
MERRY CHRISTMAS

At our Board Meeting this week we discussed several items of importance for the Club.

1. We moved a Motion to combine the Community Account with the Community Reserve Account - effectively adding $35,000 of funds for distribution on worthwhile projects.  We still maintain a $22,000 'buffer' in the Food & Wine account as an emergency in case of a washout for this critical function.  Our Public Officer, James Hamilton has clearly pointed out to the board with the changing face of our fundraising we now operate in a 'riskier' space where one canceled event could be costly.
2. We have approved a recommendation from the PHF committee and will be making an Award early next year.
3. The Tent Hire process has been tightened up with a new Policy being developed.  Tent hire will be $50 per unit with $40 (80%) being returned to non-profit and community events.  $10 will be kept for repairs.  Large functions will see members rostered to help with tent dispatch and collection.
4. The Board has approved Wollundry's support of the Cambodia Fundraising Ball to be held early March.  This support is conditional on the project being worked up as a FAIM (Forth Avenue in Motion) project whereby both District and Rotary International will provide additional funds.
5. Projects - The Board approved and members were asked to "Ratify" 4 projects as outlined below:

(a) $2000 - Ashmont Pre-school for clothes drying and washing machines
(b) 3 x Refunds of Tent Hire.  $1125 for Sunrise Rotary, $1275 for Council's Little Big Day out event, $1350 for Children's Medical Research Fair
(c) $2500 for a Fodder Drive to help drought stricken farmers in QLD

We also discussed Risk Management Issues and focused on the need to Document all procedures for our major events and the need to train up a successor for our key organisers so that Corporate knowledge is not lost with a retiring member.

Paul Murray is calling for members who might have any past photos of "Presentations of cheques" for donations to be emailed to him for addition to our website.

Finally I would like to wish all members and their families a safe and happy Festive Season.  John Ferguson will run our first meeting back on January 5 while I am away.

Guest Speaker
GUEST SPEAKER - FR. PADDY SYKES

David Foster, Fr. Paddy Sykes, President Geoff Hamilton

Today's Guest Speaker, Fr. Paddy Sykes was introduced by David Foster who told us that Fr.Paddy was born and raised in Humula NSW. He spent 12 years with Australian Navy as a chaplain and is now the Parish Priest of the Catholic Parish of Our Lady of Fatima South Wagga. It appears the young Paddy was allegedly put on the straight and narrow by our very own
Frank Fuller who was a Sergeant of Police responsible for the Humula district when Paddy was a young boy.

Fr. Paddy was here to deliver a Christmas message and his theme was Goodwill. Drawing on his own experiences of hospitality received, Paddy elaborated on this theme giving examples of people opening their hearts and homes to others.

Because this is Christmas our thoughts turn to the family of Jesus searching for a place to stay in Bethlehem and finding hospitality in a stable. Goodwill is about  opening our hearts. lives and mattresses to the person of Christ that we encounter in others.

Fr. Paddy reminded us of the plight of displaced persons who are in need of goodwill, particularly those fleeing the conflict in Syria. He said how proud he is to live in a City which is willing to accept a number of those refugees. He cited the example of the new Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, who has welcomed refugees into his country on behalf of his people. His stance has been one of leadership, generosity and goodwill.

Fr. Paddy said how much he appreciated talking to a different audience. A couple of his parishioners in the audience, Pat Ingram and Jim Gibson were referred to by Paddy as regular listeners to his sermons.

A vote of thanks from our newest member Daniel Byrnes was supported by our members who appreciated Fr.Paddy's words of wisdom at Christmas.

ROTARY INFORMATION

Ken Cook presented Rotary Information today, The topic was ROMAC

ROMAC was commenced out of the actions of a single Rotarian, Barrie Cooper OAM in March 1988, when a member of the Rotary Club of Kangaroo Flat in Victoria, visited Lambasa in Fiji with a group of Australian surgeons.

ROMAC provides specialist treatment for children, from developing countries, in the form of life saving and/or dignity restoring surgery, not accessible to them in their home country

Today ROMAC is Giving Life to around 50 children every year – we are making a huge difference in the lives of these small Island Countries.

FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL SPONSORSHIPS

Nick Leywood is asking all members to seek sponsorships of Food and Wine Festival from your business associates. It is very important this year as the major sponsor Riverina BMW will be having its own VIP area so Rotary's VIP area will need extra people to fill it up. Other sponsors will have access to this area for their valued clients. If you don't wish to approach sponsors yourself, pass the names to Nick and he and his committee will follow up for you.
