Presidents weekly report

Today's meeting was very quiet with the numbers attending under 20. Several attended by zoom. The current Covid restrictions are wearing us all down, so hopefuly we will be allowed full numbers soon. Paul Murrayshowed two videos that were quite funny to lighten the day. John Gray gave us a talk about his days in the army reserves, and half sinking a tank in a creek was very funny. Our guest speaker was called away but may attend another day,
David Benn talked about how the wagon used as the rotary symbol evolved, and is in use in all Rotary clubs and allied groups to this day.
Our next meeting will be Melbourne Cup day so for fun I suggest we all try to wear an article of clothing or hat for a bit of fun.
After the meeting I went out to North Wagga shed to look at what is there. This was in relationship to having to evacuate if there is a flood. I did not realise there was so much stuff there and in the container. The men's shed at Ashmont are willing to store it but getting it all there is the tough problem. I think it would be worth a group of members who have their stuff stored there could come out to cull what is unnecasary and have a big skip to take it away. To evacuate at present would need a lot of trailers and possibly a removal van to take the lot away.
Have a good week and see you soon
President Richard

Our Meeting Nov 2nd 2021

President Richard opened the meeting with Rotary Grace and the Loyal Toast.
Today was the first day that we could all get together again, but as we had not really gotten into stride, we had a Hillis Day. This gave us a chance to catch up with members and just chat. We really need more of these.
Today was Melbourne Cup day.
Michael Knight and Neil Pinto ran the sweeps. They were well supported!!

Geoff Breust presented Rotary Information today.
He spoke today on the origin of Wollundry Club. It was chartered by South Wagga in 1978, with the first President being Graham Hornibrook. We still have several charter members.
It has been a hugely successful club. Initially the club ran a book fair, but at the initiative of Leon Flegg and John Skeers we began the Sunday Markets. When they finally finished we had donated some $2.3m to the community. This event not only raised money but gave an opportunity to get to know the members adding to the success of the club.
Geoff then outlined the success Rotary has had in eradicating Polio. Most of our members will remember the disease being eradicated in Australia when we were children. But that crippling disease was still rampant in the World until Rotary began the initial mass vaccination. Now it is found in Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

Rick Priest reported on Laurie Blowes' progress. He is home but recovering slowly. Laurie was really happy to think that the members would think of him and really appreciated the card.
Dell and he have put their home on the market.
A little later in the meeting David Benn informed us that Rick himself had recently lost his sister to Parkinsons. Our sincere condolences to you Rick and your family.

Gerry Gerlach reminded us of the Farmers Run for Resilience that is happening at Mangoplah this Sunday. They are seeking volunteers to help marshal the event. If you can be there by 6am Sunday morning please let Gerry know.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP
"Honorary" is one of the two types of membership a person may have in a Rotary club. This type of membership is the highest distinction a Rotary club can confer and is exercised only in exceptional cases to recognize an individual for unusual service and contributions to Rotary and society. Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club, do not hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues.
Many distinguished heads of state, explorers, authors, musicians, astronauts and other public personalities have been honorary members of Rotary clubs, including King Gustaf of Sweden, King George VI of England, King Badouin of Belgium, King Hassan III of Morocco, Sir Winston Churchill, humanitarian Albert Schweitzer, Charles Lindbergh, composer Jean Sibelius, explorer Sir Edmund Hillary, Thor Heyerdahl, Thomas Edison, Walt Disney, Bob Hope, Dr. Albert Sabin, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and many of the presidents of the United States. Truly, those selected for honorary membership are those who have done much to further the ideals of Rotary.
A Leter From Paul Milde
"Hi Phil,
Thank you for your email. My apologies for not replying earlier.
I am very honoured to receive such a prestigious award. I am lost for words.
When I joined Wollundry I just wanted to be a member of a great club and be involved.
The Club is such a strong leader in the Wagga community and the world of Rotary.
I have many fond memories and have made many friends.
Could you please past on my gratitude to the Board and members for this wonderful honour.
I will always remember my years with Wollundry and it was an honour to part of the team.

Thank you.

Stay safe.

Cheers Paul."

The importance of turning up to a meeting.
Rotary is about fellowship. If you can possibly attend please do so. Great friendships are made and maintained here, and we want to see you as often as possible. Circumstances dictate that it is often just not possible to get to the meeting, but when you can, please do.
With the request for Leave of Absence for Treasurer Ken Taylor, David Pyke has happily agreed to fill in as Treasurer and at the same time assist with the transition

Secretary's Report 26.10.21
Hi all,

A limited number in the room, with another 14 or so on ZOOM.
Our guest speaker for today Graeme Wren was unable to attend, John Gray stepped up and talked of his time in the Citizen Military Forces pre Vietnam War days in the early 1960's. Thank you John and well done.

David Benn's Rotary Information presentation educated us all on the origins of the Rotary Wheel and how it became the Symbol for Rotary. A very original and well presented topic. Well done Bennie.

Paul Murray once again worked the ZOOM connection in conjunction with Pykie and featured a couple of interesting videos.

Discussions today with Mathew Oates (Romano's) indicate that COVID restrictions which dictate the maximum 20 booking number may be in place until after Dec 1st. There are a couple of ways that we could clandestinely circumvent this rule, but I do not feel the risk is worth it. A Club of our standing has an obligation to maintain a good standard. Also challenging the system could put Mathew under pressure. Maybe the Premier will open things up earlier, he seems to be leaning in that direction.

The Food and Wine Festival  committee met on Monday night. Some reallocation of responsibilities was necessary due to the loss of Paul Milde, Jeremy Riethmuller, Shane Carroll and the addition of Chris Kelly and Neil Schirmer to the committee.
The VMG has been booked and confirmed for 19th Feb. A COVID -19 action Plan has been completed. Risk management and Emergency Evacuation Plans are being prepared. Equipment hire to facilitate the Festival is well in hand.
I will be meeting with Pykie and Katie O'Neill later in the week to discuss Social Media advertising and ticketing arrangements.

Preliminary investigations into a Club Christmas Party are under way. more to say after a bit of research.
