He welcomed several guests, then proceeded to tell us the good news that our Burmo had been elected Club President of the Riverine Club, which is a prestigeous appointment and deserves congratulations. He also recognised Canada Day, as we have a part time "member" from that great land.
On a more somber note we heard that Brenda Byfield's mother had passed away. Our sincere sympathies were expressed to Brenda, David and the family.
Rick Priest is proposing a fitting memorial to Brian and Dick, and a tribute is being arranged for Brenda.
And did you know that it was Gavrilo Princip an activist who happened to be in the right place at the wrong time, who fired the shots that led to WW1. June 28th 100 years ago.World peace is an aim of all of us, and Rotary is no exception. This date is a stark reminder of the waste and carnage that was both WW1 and WW2, and we work towards peace in our own way by making the world better for those who have little.
Jonty was proposed by James Ross, and will make a great addition to our club. Membership is important and we should be looking for new members of high caliber such as Jonty to share the Rotary experience.
Jonty and Louise have a daughter Heidi who is in Austria as an exchange student with us. Welcome.
Pride of Workmanship is an important award that Wollundry gives to people who demonstrate vocational excellence.
Today two young women from Twomey Patterson were honored by their employers and the Club, for their outstanding attitude and work ethic.
Doug Conkey in his introduction of the two employees pointed out that they are sisters.Adrianna Campbell began a year later than Naomi Cooney, and both give 110%.
They both have great people skills, and spend time on detail so that the customers get the best experience possible.
Two well deserved recipients. Dennis Sheen has continued doing a great job with these awards.
In her acceptance speech Naomi Cooney made the comment "we work as if we own the business, because we are highly valued and are shown that by awards such as this."
A Centurion is one who gives $100 each year to the Rotary Foundation. This is a tax deductible donation.
The money is used to support the programmes of the Foundation. Water, Sanitation, and Polio are top of their list. The Foundation also supports Club and District projects through grants.
In Wollundry, we make a donation of $50 each year through our fees. This is $1.00 per week
By putting an extra $50 per year we become Centurions and the Foundation is further supported.
See Jim at the Treasurers desk. He is happy to receive your donation.
We all put money in the middle to be regaled by terrible jokes. Michael Georgiou has a thick joke book, so it could be a long year!
Wheel Meal Deal
Jerry Gerlach has retired from Planet Power, and he thanked all who were able to support him in the four years that he was there. The business grew rapidly to be very successful, but he is ready to play golf!
He and Angie hosted a great night in the Wheel Meal Deal, along with Neil Pinto and Nola, and Wayne Jenkins and Maureen
Yachting Weekend
Mark Hillis is organising another Harbour event this October. Actual dates haven't been settled, but check your calendar for October. Its a top weekend.
