Modernist architecture in South Yarra

A full complement of 22 turned up to the 1958 built house of Robin Boyd one of the most influential domestic architects, writers and critics of his generation. We had a informative talk by one of the Foundation’s volunteers and then wandered through the modernist home admiring the spaces and materials used which have retained an integrity to this day. Ideas like separate children’s wing, internal courtyard and galley kitchen all with a Japanese  and Bauhaus influenced aesthetic.

A delicious morning tea was provided in the dining room and we could only imagine the dinner parties provided by his wife Patricia, with such luminaries as Joan Sutherland,Richard Bonynge, Zara and Harold Holt and Sir Zelman Cowan.
