Back to the 1920's with Miss Fisher
On Thursday, 21st May, 20 Melbourne Sunrise Probus members and guests stepped into
Rippon Lea and entered the opulent 1920s world of the Honourable Miss Phryne Fisher.
This exhibition is set in the home of “Aunt Prudence”, costumes and props from the third
series of the production were featured. We were, of course, able to see the superb outfits
worn by Phryne Fisher (Essie Davis).
Walking through beautiful Rippon Lea, with its rooms arranged as in the series and being
able touch the sumptuous fabrics and admire the gorgeous outfits was a rather delightful
way to spend a morning.
Our guide was well informed and explained the importance of detail and the perseverance
Marion Boyce and her team show in endeavouring to produce authenticity. Discovering the
inspiration for costumes and understanding how they were made was fascinating. Marion
very kindly has allowed some of her own personal collection to be displayed.
Trying on replica costumes from the show was fun with Karin Dixon, Jude Bodiam, Libby
Rossell and Elaine Collins looking rather glamorous as 1920’s ‘stars’.
After the exhibition, members visited the Wardlow Tea Rooms where they enjoyed a ‘Miss
Fisher’ inspired menu.
Rippon Lea is a wonderful National Trust property and complements the exhibition
beautifully (more photos in albums)
