Induction of New Board
This week our meeting was concerned with the departure of the present Board and induction of the new one.  Outgoing President Jag, a Rotarian for 42 years, thanked members for giving him the chance to serve as President for 2016-2017.  He thanked the membership and especially Past presidents Shail and Michael for their support. He also recognized the work of Secretary Lexie, Treasurer Lana, both in her position as Club Treasurer and working tirelessly to help set up our fundraising auction. In addition he recognized Project Manager Grant for his many hours in developing a process to determine which projects qualify for Club funding as well as finding a sponsor for the wine for our Fund Raiser; for Dianna and DB for making a wonderful Web page; for ‘Smiling Sam’ who has brought new life to the club and helped Membership Chair Brian Cawley to exceed our goal of increasing membership by 5 new members. He also thanked  PDG Leigh and PDG Hans for leading us in singing O’Canada and giving general advice; for Michael Cowhig for his photography and expertise on audiovisual equipment; for Lawrie, our Sergeant at Arms for his lively weekly wine bottle raffles and as banker of both good and bad news and thanks for his wife, Brajinder for her support and ‘putting up with him’.

He further thanked Incoming President Joyce for all her support and the running of the very successful Rotary Fundraising for our global project, the cleaning of the El Salvador beaches and coastline.

Area Governor Davinder felt honoured to induct the members of our Board for 2017-2018,  Joyce Johnson, President, Lexie Martin, Secretary, Dianna Smith President- elect and Brian Cawley, Chair Membership and  Advocate for Rotary Foundation. Other members will be inducted shortly.

Bursary winners

We were delighted to offer 2 more Bursaries today to Liam Wright and Miranda Mancini, recent graduates from Fraser Academy.
Liam was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia in Grade 2. Fortunately his mother discovered and sent him to Fraser Academy where he has flourished and was voted Head of Student Council. This September he will be enrolling in the Documentary Certificate programme at Capilano University. He felt honoured and grateful to be chosen to be granted this Bursary.

Miranda also a graduate from Fraser Academy struggled at school until she was diagnosed with dyscalculia, ( a form of maths dyslexia) and weak auditory skills, meaning she failed to comprehend numbers, maths, time, distance and directions. Fraser Academy helped her deal with her learning style and gave her confidence. She has volunteered by supervising in Summer Day Camps, serving in Soup Kitchens and working with the Make a Wish Foundation. She will attend UBC Okanagan to gain a degree in Psychology and hopes eventually to open a private practice for children and young adults struggling with anxiety and depression. She thanked the club for the Bursary to help her with her tuition fees and also for listening to her story.
