Chester Rotary's very own Jan Taigen receives Tri-Town Youth Services GENERATIVITY AWARD for 2018.
Located in Deep River,TRI-TOWN YOUTH SERVICES BUREAU, INC. is a nonprofit agency that coordinates, develops and provides services dedicated to promoting the positive growth and development of youth and families in Chester, Deep River and Essex, Connecticut.  They have a primary focus on these key areas;
  • Juvenile Justice
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Child Welfare
  • Mental Health
  • Positive Youth Development
  • Recreation/Cultural
Clearly, this non-profit's work in our community aligns very much with Rotary's desire to build stronger communities, support education and improve childhood development.  The Rotary Clubs in Chester, Deep River and Essex have a history of  support for TTYS.  In March of 2018, TTYS Director Allison Abramson visited a Chester Rotary meeting and presented an update to the Club.   When we asked, she included a wish list of improvement projects where the Rotary may be able to help.
Soon after the meeting, Jan took the lead and defined the project such that would allow us to apply for and receive a Rotary District Grant.  For many weeks in 2018 she was busy coordinating the project with Tri-Town Youth Services, The Southern CT Rotary District, Deep River Rotary Club and the Essex Rotary Club.  Once we received the grant, she served as the project leader, completing designs, ordering materials and coordinating and doing a lot of the work.
Jan clearly has a passion for the mission of TTYS and as Allison stated, this year's recipient choice was an easy one.  The annual award is aimed at recognizing an individual in the community who best exemplifies a concern for the future, and the need to nurture and guide younger people and thereby contribute to the next generation.
Congratulations Jan!
