Last Meeting November 21, 2017

President Phil Webber chaired the meeting and gave the invocation.
Kayo Otake accompanied on the piano for the singing of O Canada.
Jim Evans, Sergeant-at-Arms, introduced visitors and guests.

Chair's (Phil Webber's) announcements:
  • Charles Flavelle paid a wonderful tribute to John & Cindy Hayto for all they have done and continue to do for charity, community, and humanity, each in their own special way. Charles presented John with an art piece to thank you!
Additionally, the 2018 ski weekend has been announced: SAVE THE DATE FEB 3-4 2018. Contact John Hayto to reserve your spot.
  • Thanks to Min Kuang, John Bathurst, Franco Gallo, Carolyn Treger &  for putting together such a successful District Foundation Dinner held last Saturday, Nov 18th. It was very well attended, 220 people, and raised a significant amount of money for the Foundation (final numbers to be announced in the coming weeks).
  • John Bathurst provided an update on the nominations for the open Director positions on the Board. Please see the notice above in this Rotor for the names. Thanks to all who agreed to have their names stand and though only 3 of the 5 will be elected, all are greatly appreciated for their commitment to Rotary.
  • Phil Webber joined John Richardson at Norquay school for the reading program. His experience, as John had told us is true when he last spoke to the group, was one of the most rewarding experiences he has had as a volunteer. Please consider volunteering to read with these young people. You will not regret it and you will leave the school with a huge smile.
  • Special thanks for John Hayto for acting as greeter this week. We are looking for volunteers to sign up as greeters and sign-in desk volunteers for the coming weeks. Please contact Carolyn if you're interested (email: admin@rotaryvancouver.org)

Secretary's, Franco Gallo, announcements:
  • reminders of upcoming events/meetings (see above)
  • birthdays: no member birthdays this week
  • member anniversariesMass Abedi 9 years
  • wedding anniversaries: no member wedding anniversaries this week
Special announcements; members' moments:
  • Jason Boudreau provided a membership committee update.

Program: Min Kuang introduced Kamyar Asadibeilky, CEO, President & Founder of Machool Technologies. His presentation Tales of a Tech Start Up was interesting. He had lots to say in a short amount of time but managed to fit it in. Interesting he took a lot of points from last week's presentation as they hold true for him and his experience:

  • Why Invest in a tech company - it's the future and it will support the younger generation through their professional lives
  • What to look for when investing in a tech firm
    • a strong leader surrounded by a passionate team
    • well balance company culture
    • good company structure
    • a defined market
    • a good product that can grow
  • What are the risks - such a fast moving industry there are plenty
Kamyar is obviously passionate and his company, Machool Technologies, has a good product platform that helps people & businesses be more productive by helping them streamline their needs. uDo is an innovative all-in-one platform bringing services and service providers onto one convenient application so that users will be able to easily access different services and a range of solutions from one spot rather than having to go to different applications for each service, e.g. couriers. uDo's VISION: With the goal of offering one central interface for all services, uDo is simple, efficient, and insightful.

Meeting adjourned with a toast to supporting our Vancouver Tech pioneers.
