Impacts of US corporate tax reduction on the Canadian economy.

Kevin Milligan is a Professor of Economics in the Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia, and is also affiliated with the C.D. Howe Institute and the National Bureau of Economic Research. Since 2011, he has served as Co-Editor of the Canadian Tax Journal.

He studied at Queen’s University and the University of Toronto, receiving his Ph.D. in 2001. His thesis was awarded the 2002 National Tax Association dissertation award.

His research spans the fields of public and labour economics, with a focus on how the Canadian tax and transfer system affects the decisions and well being of individuals and families. He is a frequent commentator on economic issues in the media, and has advised senior levels of government on taxation and economic policy.

Impacts of US corporate tax reduction on Canadian ecomony

Ray-Cam Co-operative Centre is a neighbourhood facility on East Hastings St near Clark Drive. They have recreation and social activities for all ages and support services for individuals and families. They offer out-of-school, preschool, and daycare programs for children, as well as a fitness centre, gym, drop-in lounge, games room, media lab, and multipurpose rooms. Outside, there are basketball and sport courts.

  • Rotary Convention in Toronto June 23-27 2018, "Inspiration Around Every Corner"; please consider joining other Rotarians from around the country. With a variety of exceptional keynote speakers, the convention is sure to broaden your perspective. Check the preliminary schedule to see the breakout sessions, where you'll learn about interesting projects and gain new skills to share with members back home.

    If you are a past attendee, you know how much fun the host-ticketed event can be, this year to include Rock at the Historic Distillery District and the family RotaryFest. As these events sell out quickly, purchase your tickets soon.

  • The Don Kavanagh Youth Fund will be established within the Vancouver Rotary Club Foundation with an initial distribution expected from Don's estate towards the end of May at the earliest.
  • The Rotary Club of Vancouver and the Tokyo Setagawa Minami Rotary Club renewal of sister club agreement will be complete this month. A contingent of 7 of our members will be attending the celebration in Tokyo at the end of March.

  • Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA South 5040) is coordinating the annual Rotarian visit to the RYLA Camp which will take place this year on Saturday March 31st. This is a great opportunity to see how RYLA works. CLICK HERE for info.
  • Our new Interact Club at Sir Winston Churchill High School will be chartered on Friday May 25th. SAVE THE DATE to attend! Please let John Bathurst or Adriana Zylman know if you'd like to be on the list to attend.
  • 2018 District Spring Training, includes the Lower Mainland District Assembly on March 17th, and the Lower Mainland Rotary Foundation Grant Management Seminar on March 18th. CLICK HERE for a list of trainings/seminars and to register. Note: our Club will pay the registration fee (email your registration confirmation to Carolyn) for reimbursement.
  • All members are strongly encouraged to obtain Criminal Record Checks. Only 10 members so far have them completed or are in progress. The CRC is necessary to participate in projects that assist with youth and vulnerable adults. Please let Phil or Carolyn know if you have a valid CRC and we will arrange having you recognized as having it by Rotary.

  • Nick Blom introduced our guest speaker, Dr. Joost Schokkenbroek, the Executive Director of the Vancouver Maritime Museum. Dr. Schokkenbroek's topic was "Setting a New Course, The Vancouver Maritime Museum, 2018-202". 

    Dr. Schokkenbroek gave us an overview of the challenges faced in bringing up the profile of the Maritime Museum in Vancouver and beyond.
