Kevin Milligan is a Professor of Economics in the Vancouver School of Economics at the University of British Columbia, and is also affiliated with the C.D. Howe Institute and the National Bureau of Economic Research. Since 2011, he has served as Co-Editor of the Canadian Tax Journal.
He studied at Queen’s University and the University of Toronto, receiving his Ph.D. in 2001. His thesis was awarded the 2002 National Tax Association dissertation award.
His research spans the fields of public and labour economics, with a focus on how the Canadian tax and transfer system affects the decisions and well being of individuals and families. He is a frequent commentator on economic issues in the media, and has advised senior levels of government on taxation and economic policy.

Ray-Cam Co-operative Centre is a neighbourhood facility on East Hastings St near Clark Drive. They have recreation and social activities for all ages and support services for individuals and families. They offer out-of-school, preschool, and daycare programs for children, as well as a fitness centre, gym, drop-in lounge, games room, media lab, and multipurpose rooms. Outside, there are basketball and sport courts.

The Don Kavanagh Youth Fund will be established within the Vancouver Rotary Club Foundation with an initial distribution expected from Don's estate towards the end of May at the earliest.
The Rotary Club of Vancouver and the Tokyo Setagawa Minami Rotary Club renewal of sister club agreement will be complete this month. A contingent of 7 of our members will be attending the celebration in Tokyo at the end of March.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA South 5040) is coordinating the annual Rotarian visit to the RYLA Camp which will take place this year on Saturday March 31st. This is a great opportunity to see how RYLA works. CLICK HERE for info.

All members are strongly encouraged to obtain Criminal Record Checks. Only 10 members so far have them completed or are in progress. The CRC is necessary to participate in projects that assist with youth and vulnerable adults. Please let Phil or Carolyn know if you have a valid CRC and we will arrange having you recognized as having it by Rotary.

Mass Abedi, returned from a lengthy business-related absence. He was working on an investigative piece about the Olympic doping scandals out of Russia. For a limited time, you can access the English version of the films. It's a 2 part miniseries, together approximately 1-hour long.
Peter Clarke, promoting the District Conference (June 1-3) in Squamish BC. He's pleased to announce the addition of Mitty Chang as one of the speakers. Mitty, a Paul Harris Fellow himself, is a specialist in how to attract millennials into organizations. CLICK HERE for info about the conference and to register. Thomas Miller, Vice-President of the Rotaract Young Professionals, thanks everyone who attended the joint meeting for a great evening of information sharing and networking. He also let us know that their recent trivia night was very successful and the proceeds funded their volunteer project at the Ronald Macdonald House -- cooking a hearty meal for the families who are currently staying there.
Thomas let us know that both he and Joanna Johnson were selected to represent B.C. at the upcoming RYLA in Washington, D.C.
And finally thanks to our Club for sponsoring Thomas to attend PETS. It was a great experience he would highly recommend to all.

Nick Blom introduced our guest speaker, Dr. Joost Schokkenbroek, the Executive Director of the Vancouver Maritime Museum. Dr. Schokkenbroek's topic was "Setting a New Course, The Vancouver Maritime Museum, 2018-202".
Dr. Schokkenbroek gave us an overview of the challenges faced in bringing up the profile of the Maritime Museum in Vancouver and beyond.
