Food on the Corner

Testimonial from Rotarian, Jill Pennefather, on how helping those in need has been a wonderful experience.

The first group I joined after becoming a Rotarian in 2018 was "Food on the Corner". It was an opportunity for me to provide aid first hand to my fellow Vancouverites who are not as lucky as I.

Rotary Stay In School Awards

The Rotary Club of Vancouver continues its support of Gladstone Secondary school students with funding towards their post-secondary education.  Award letters were delivered to five talented students this week with the news that the Rotary Club of Vancouver has funded scholarships totaling $21,500.  Funding for awards during the pandemic was increased by $7,500.  Two students received awards of $7,000 each and three students each received awards of $2,500.  The program is designed to motivate grade 11 students who have demonstrated excellent “citizenship” and the talent to go forward with post-secondary education, but who may lack the financial resources to achieve this goal.

Let’s take the challenge together and rappel down the outside of Guinness Tower in downtown Vancouver - all in support of persons with diverse abilities, one of the most vulnerable groups of COVID-19. If ever there was a time to do it, this is it! 2020 could be the year that we lived through a global pandemic and rappelled down a skyscraper!

No-Contact Event

This is a great no-contact Easter Seals event you can still participate in during the COVID-19 pandemic. Challenge yourself in this high energy event by stepping outside your comfort zone, exploring your potential and rappelling down the outside of a skyscraper.

Who You Help

By participating in Drop Zone 2020, you're helping raise funds to support Easter Seals programs and services that children and adults with disabilities from the Surrey community are able to experience, such as with Easter Seals summer camps. “Caitlin attended Easter Seals camp every summer and the pandemic shut down has been hard on her” explained her mother Anita.  “But this virtual version, has reconnected her to camp, renewed friendships and changed her life in a great way again” says Anita.

Saving lives in Ghana

What is it like taking a large team to Africa?  It has probably been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. In mid February, I began leading Rotary members from all over the East Coast of the United States through Ghana. I’ve tried to give the team a warm Ghanaian welcome like I’ve received on my earlier trips. A large trip is a real blessing because each person sees Ghana and our work in a different way.

India celebrates three years without polio

Throughout India and around the world, Rotary clubs are celebrating a major milestone: India has gone three years without a new case of polio. The last reported case was a two-year-old girl in West Bengal on 13 January 2011. To mark this historic triumph, Rotary clubs illuminated landmarks and iconic structures throughout the country with four simple but powerful words, "India is polio free."
