The Hawaii Food and Wine Festival will return this fall for a 13th year of festivities, event organizers announced Wednesday. The annual event, which was cofounded by James Beard Award-winning chefs Roy Yamaguchi and Alan Wong, will take place on three islands — Maui, Hawaii Island and Oahu — from Oct. 13 through Nov. 5. More than 90 chefs will participate in this year's event. The festival aims to support local agriculture and requires all participating chefs to create a dish using at least one locally sourced ingredient from Hawaii's farmers, ranchers or fishermen.

Proceeds from the festival benefit aina-based organizations focusing on sustainability, culinary or agricultural education and cultural programs. To date, the festival has raised $3.4 million to support these programs, according to the announcement. “Last year, the festival was not only able to spotlight Hawaii as a culinary destination and support local agriculture, but became a platform to showcase the work of artists and artisans — makers, musicians, performing and visual artists — to rebuild vital industries in Hawaii,” said Denise Yamaguchi, the festival's chief executive officer, in a written statement. “We’re excited to continue this work in conjunction with the support we provide to local aina-based and community organizations committed to culinary and agricultural education, sustainability and cultural programs.”
