President's Message

It is hard to believe that my year as President is coming to a close. It has been a privilege and an honor to have served as your President during the 2016-17 Rotary Year.
I have been so fortunate to have had such a great team working with me. Together we have conducted Keiki Vision, given out dictionaries, supported our Veterans, marshaled parades, wa-tered trees, provided Christmas for disadvantaged Keiki, sup-ported art and drama for keiki, held a very successful Valentine Fund Raising event, bought and installed new computers and equipment for the Kona Literacy Center, weeded and planted at the Veteran's Cemetery,honored an awesome volunteer in our community, awarded over $20,000.00 in scholarships to graduating students at Konawaena High School, supported 2 In-ternational Projects and have grown our club by 6 new members.

But, that is not all. We have also have had a lot of fun with several social times with our own members and members of our sister Clubs here in West Hawaii and with our sister club from Mizusawa, Japan.
Perhaps the highlight of the year was the celebration of our 50th Anniversary with a Gala dinner and 2 Jubilee Community Projects that will benefit our community for years to come.
On July 2 at 5pm at the VFW in Kona we will celebrate our year with our friends from the Rotary Club of Kona Sunrise. I hope you all will join me as I pass the gavel to your new President, Laura Kniffin. I know Laura and her team have lots of great things planned for another awesome year for the Rotary Club of Kona Mauka.
