Update: Rotary's work to end polio

Polio is 99% eradicated

In 1985 when Rotary joined the fight to end polio, over 350,000 cases of polio were reported, and 125 countries were polio-endemic.

In 2012 there were fewer than 250 reported cases of polio, and only 3 countries remain polio-endemic: Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria.

2.5 billion children around the world have received the polio vaccination since 1988, an average of 3.3 children immunized per second!

Rotary has contributed over $1 billion since joining the fight to eradicate polio.

The cost of protecting one child from polio is only 60 cents.

We are this close to ending polio!
