It was great to see so many of you last week at Rotary, the first meeting of the New Year!

There was some discussion about how long is it appropriate to say Happy New Year when you see your friends. After some back and forth comments, that it is OK the first time you see someone after the beginning of the year, that up until the end of the first week is cool and then Betsy Gibson, one of our past Rotary Presidents, issued the official proclamation that anytime during the month of January, is OK! So there you have it, end of discussion.

Last Wednesday it was great to hear from Charles Dammann and the Foundation Committee about Rotarians impact locally and globally in regard to education. Then we had a perfect tie in with Joe Smith from Hamilton County Board of Education sharing the successes that we are having in Hamilton County with graduation rates and high school seniors being introduced to career paths. All of us need education that isn’t just book learning but practical that can and will have dramatic impact on our lives.

This coming week we will be honoring some of our local law enforcement officers. Someone from the Chattanooga Police Department, Sheriff’s Office and Collegedale PD. We should have a good crowd so make sure to show your appreciation for those that are dedicated to serving everyone in our community.
