Jeff Rector - STEP-UP Chattanooga Business Partnerships Manager, College & Career Success Initiatives was our featured speaker last week.
In his role, Jeff builds business relationships and maintains business partnerships that will transition into internship opportunities for students. This role also develops, in collaboration with partners, curriculum for the training and support of intern supervisors and collects and shares feedback with partners and staff. The Manager works primarily with the Vice President of College & Career Success Initiatives and the College & Career Youth Services Manager.
STEP-UP Chattanooga builds tomorrow's workforce today by connecting businesses with high school interns who will be our next generation of talented workers.
STEP-UP Chattanooga is modeled on the nationally recognized STEP-UP Achieve program in Minneapolis, which has served over 20,000 students since 2004. 96% of STEP-UP Achieve supervisors reported that interns made a valuable contribution to the workplace and the program was a success at their company.
Please contact Jeff if your business is interested in offering internships.

Dr. Jared Bigham currently serves as Coordinator of Chattanooga 2.0, an education and workforce development initiative for Hamilton County.
Chattanooga 2.0 is a community-wide call to action for education reform and improvement to help all students succeed and to prepare for the jobs of the future. Chattanooga 2.0 found that local public schools aren't preparing students for entry-level jobs, most of which require post-secondary education. So far, 33 businesses and agencies, including TVA, Unum and a handful of nonprofit and other organizations, have expressed interest in partnering with Chattanooga 2.0.
Dr. Bigham has worked as the state-wide Director of College & Career Readiness with TN SCORE, a non-profit research and advocacy organization, where he also led the work of the Expect More, Achieve More state coalition. Before this, Dr. Bigham served as a K-12 supervising principal, a high school principal, and an elementary principal. Dr. Bigham has served on multiple state and national committees, as well serving as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Rural Education Association.
Dr. Bigham has given multiple presentations on education and coalition building issues at the state and national level, is a contributor to national education blogs like Edweek.org, and is the author of three books.
Dr. Bigham is also an adjunct instructor at Liberty University, teaching classes in philosophy of education and school/community relations. He is also the proud husband of a teacher and father of five children.
