Dear Rotarians,

Last Wednesday we had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Glenn Draper of the downtown Rotary. Friend, Tom Hammett, guided Glenn in stories of his career in music and 56 years of perfect attendance in Rotary. I've heard the stories he told last Wednesday multiple times but it was great to hear them again. Glenn has been an enormous influence in my life personally and a mentor in my 20+ years in choral and church music. Our greatest times together have been our occasions to travel to different parts of the world, see wonderful places with great friends, and sing "Chattanooga Choo Choo" more times than you could imagine!

This Wednesday we have the privilege of hearing from UTC's new head football coach, Tom Arth. After losing a tough one to Jacksonville State this past Saturday and having senior All-Southern Conference starting quarterback Alejandro Bennifield suspended for the first four games due to an academic issue, the year hasn't exactly started like he was hoping. However, Coach Arth is a proven winner and I'm sure he and the Mocs will persevere to contend for the Southern Conference title again this year. I hope you make plans to make it Wednesday for a great program!

Announcements:
  • Hurricane Harvey - Rotary International District 5930 has partnered with the non-profit McAllen North Rotary Fund to set up an emergency relief fund for those affected by the storms of Hurricane Harvey. Would you like to help in the Rotary effort to assist the victims of this massive storm? If so, the link below will tell you how to make your gifts and be a part of the relief team even if you can't physically go to the Houston area.
  • Membership Month
    • It looks like Rotarian Craig Miller is zeroing in on taking home the win for the "bring the most guests to Rotary" contest. (That is unless someone brings a half a dozen or so guests Wednesday.) He will have the misfortune of playing a round of golf with Robin, Tyler and me at Robin's place sometime in the near future.
    • August has been a great month of having new people come to see what Rotary is all about by visiting our club. Please follow up with your guests to see if Rotary might be a good fit for them (and us). Thanks to everybody for making it a focus this month!
  • Service Opportunities
  • RYLA 2017 - Saturday September 23rd. See Rotarian Dale Rardin if you would like to go!

    “Training Youth for Leadership Tomorrow”
