It was nice hearing from Jeff Romine, Georgia Department of Safety, who shared a lot of safety knowledge and had some eye opening facts at times. He definitely showed that some readily available items can have hazards that can easily be forgotten.
This week I'm excited that we have Jay Fowler, the Multi-Area Director for FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) returning to our Club. It has been quite some time, and as we enter the Rotary Youth Month, it will be exciting to see how the FCA programs have developed in the schools around our community. Timing is just right as they host they're annual 5K (which I'm walking in) on Labor Day!
On September 9th we have the honor to enjoy an offsite meeting at the Coolidge Medal of Honor Heritage Center! (2 W Aquarium Way, downtown) We will meet there at 12pm (you are responsible for parking, street or by the Aquarium), enjoy a packed lunch, then be fortunate to have a tour guided by our very own Hank Powell, who is a volunteer for the Heritage Center. We will have sign up sheets again at this week's meeting so if you are unable to attend the meeting but want to come to the offsite meeting, please let me know ASAP!
Just a reminder of a couple things: We are collecting plastic shopping bags (grocery, department, etc.) for our next service project (until September 16th), and then meet up at Abba's House (5208 Hixson Pike) on September 17th from 10am 12pm to help weave these bags into mats for the homeless. Also, September 14th through the 25th we will be holding our next food drive for the Chattanooga Food Bank, please see Warren Graber or Barry Jeffries with your sponsor (we should each have at least one!) and we will get a donation box there (drop off and pick up, we just need an address!). Please keep in mind that financial donations are welcome and hold more buying power for the Food Bank.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and thank you for putting Service Above Self! If you can't join us in person, please join us by Zoom at the link below:
