We kicked off Rotary Youth Month with a bang! That was so great this past Wednesday to hear from Jay Fowler, the Multi-Area Director for FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and from two of his newest Directors. They certainly shared some heartfelt stories and they are truly helping many young people in our community. Thank you to Chris Neighbors for getting Jay on short notice. I look forward to FCA 5k tomorrow!
This coming Wednesday we get to have an offsite meeting at the Medal of Honor Heritage Center downtown. If you have not signed up and want to go, then please contact me immediately as I have already given headcounts to the Heritage Center and our caterer. This is going to be a wonderful chance to honor the young soldiers who put their lives on the line for our freedom. Our very own Hank Powell will be leading the tour after we eat lunch. For those of you coming, please give yourself plenty of time to find parking (2 Aquarium Way) so that we may begin right at 12pm. This is something that has been talked about for years and I'm elated that this is finally coming to fruition!
Next Wednesday we will hear from Emerie Shontz (Germ) who is the President of UTC Roteract. She is going to inform us about how she has helped build a solid Roteract at UTC, how to keep the young people engaged, and hopefully we can take away some of Emerie's knowledge and advice to help us begin other Roteract clubs in our area or get one going again like Southern Adventist who used to have a huge Roteract.
Finally, another reminder that we are still collecting plastic shopping bags for our service project at Abba's House on September 17th at 10am to 12pm. We will be organizing and help weave the bags into mats for the homeless in our community. Also, we are having a Food Drive for the Chattanooga Food Bank from September 14th to September 25th if you have some business, church, doctor's office, HOA, etc to partner with (place a food drive box in) then please inform Warren Graber or Barry Jeffery. Please keep in mind that cash donation are welcome and that the Food Bank has better buying power, each dollar equals 2.5 meals!
I hope you all have a wonderful week and thank you for putting Service Above Self! If you can't join us in person, please join us by Zoom at the link below:
