Dear Rotarians,

Last week we heard from Summer Lewis regarding all of the great work that is being done in Mexico regarding positive peace!  Tomorrow, we will be hosting our annual Veteran's Day Program and will be hearing from Mr. Joe Dana.

Joe's dad John was an American mining engineer working in the Philippines when the war broke out. They were not in the military just living there. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time! John and Katharine Dana were retained as prisoners at St. Thomas Prison. Manila had been declared an open city and Japan took control on January 1942. All Americans were taken to prison. His mother was taken directly to prison. All the women, children and old people who couldn’t fight were taken directly to prison. It was not an option, you went or you were shot. In 1947 the Philippines was still a US territory. They were just victims of circumstance.

Come to the meeting on Wednesday to hear more exciting news about Joe’s parents as POW’s during WWII.  Joe was born in the Philippines and moved to the US in 1954. He graduated from the University of Georgia and Georgia Law School. He is married with 3 sons and 1 step daughter.

Also, remember that next week, November 14th, we will have lunch and do a tour of the new Coca-Cola plant next door to Metro Tab.  We need you to RSVP for that meeting by this Friday, November 9th to Betsy Gibson at betsy.gibson@raymondjames.com.

I hope to see you all tomorrow!

President Chris
