World Community Workshop

"New Zealand: Fire and Ice"

Thursday, May 11, 2017 - Saturday, May 13, 2017

 

This three-day workshop for high-school students is designed to help participants learn about the history, customs, economic and political issues of a selected region of the world. Students participate in small group discussions and experience hands-on activities. In addition, guest speakers share their stories about life in different countries.

 The workshop is open to high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students should be in good academic standing and have a genuine interest in learning about different regions of the world.

 Local Rotary Clubs within District 6600 provide scholarships which cover the cost of attending the workshop. Contact your local Rotary Club for more information and to confirm that they are willing to sponsor your participation. YOU MUST KNOW THE NAME OF YOUR LOCAL ROTARY CLUB WHEN COMPLETING THE REGISTRATION FORM.

 Program Highlights

Join students from all over the world for this three-day event as you explore and learn about the history and culture of New Zealand.  An island in the southwest Pacific Ocean consisting of two main islands made up of fire and ice and has three times as many cows as people.  Devoid of humans before 800 years ago.  Workshop participants spend three days and two nights on the campus of Defiance College, interacting with DC faculty, staff, and students.

  • Enjoy informative presentations by knowledgeable speakers
     
  • Fun social events in the evening with fellow workshop participants
     
  • Faculty and students from Defiance College help staff the workshop and mentor participants through an interactive learning process
     
  • Grand Banquet on Thursday night featuring cultural cuisine

 Procedures

Check-In for the Workshop is scheduled for Noon - 1 pm on Thursday, May 11, 2017. The Workshop will conclude at Noon on Saturday, May 13, 2017.

 After registering, participants will receive a confirmation e-mail. Specific materials related to the workshop (medical authorization, list of what to bring, workshop schedule, etc.) will be sent to Workshop participants closer to the actual date of the event.

 Registration Details

Your local Rotary Club covers the cost of registration for the Workshop, which includes all meals and snacks, lodging, the Grand Banquet, entertainment, and a Workshop t-shirt.

 The cost to your local Rotary Club is $200.00.
