The Rotary Club of Bend Statement of Purpose

“Since 1947 The Rotary Club of Bend has been the preeminent service club in Central Oregon.  Our club engages its members with fellowship, fundraising events and provocative programs. Through volunteerism and charitable giving, our members change lives locally and in communities around the world.”

Locally, The Rotary Club of Bend has sponsored and participated in a wide variety of community service projects including renovating Abilitree, remodeling the kitchen of Living Options for Teens (LOFT), serving meals at the Bethlehem Inn, and building bus shelters in Bend. The Rotary Club of Bend partnered with the Bend High Desert club, Bend-Mt Bachelor club, and Greater Bend club in 2005 to build the Rotary Centennial Park, creating a place  for all children and parents, including those with special needs, to play.

One of our greatest contributions to the Central Oregon community was in 1994 when The Rotary club of Bend built Kids Center. Through fundraising efforts, Rotary grants, and the generosity of local contractors and building supply dealers, $400,000 was raised. Rotarians spent countless hours volunteering their time to complete the project. Today Kids Center provides a range of services helping children who are victims of physical, mental and sexual abuse in Central Oregon.

Internationally, our projects in partnership with The Rotary Foundation include a water project in Condega, Nicaragua, remodeling a school kitchen and providing wheelchairs in Lithuania, funding water filters in Sri Lanka, and sending shelter boxes for disaster relief in Haiti.

The Rotary Club of Bend supports youth programs including sponsoring incoming and outgoing international youth exchanges students, Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) camp, and provides scholarships to students to advance their education. In 2010, our club sponsored an Interact Club at Mountain View High School, to advance the mission of Rotary and further impact our community.

As Rotary International continues efforts to eradicate Polio, in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Rotary Club of Bend supports the End Polio Now campaign through fundraising efforts and the generosity of our dedicated Rotarians.
