From 1957 - the first 50 years...

The year 2007 marked the 50th Anniversary of The Rotary Club of Quesnel Auction.

Our very first Auction, in 1957, was broadcast on radio from the old firehall on Carson Street - click here for articles published in what was then the Cariboo Observer, including details of what went under the hammer, and a page from the Quesnel Advertiser.

Over the years the Auction grew into a 3-night event broadcast on both radio and TV, with pictures and information available via a dedicated website until, in 2013, we decided it was time to put down the gavel.

With just one exception, in 2011, all funds raised were committed to local Quesnel community projects, and we thankyou for your support.

2004: Specialized ceiling lift equipment at Quesnel & District Recreation Centre
2005: Mobile Command Centre for Quesnel Search & Rescue
2006: Refurbishment of Quesnel’s war memorial
2007: New sound system for Quesnel & District Seniors’ Centre
2008: Child Development Centre Pregnancy Outreach Programme
2009: Renovation of Legion Beach
2010: Rec Centre Evolv™ Stand & Glide and ENERGI ™ activity equipment at West Fraser Timber Park
2011: Canadian Cancer Society "Northern Lodge - Rotary Hair Salon & Wig Bank"
2012: Rec Centre Swim Timing Clock for Quesnel Sea Lions and Waveriders Swim Clubs

We owe a big debt of gratitude to our media partners:

Our final Auction - for now, anyway - and we went out with a splash!

In spite of some bumps in the road with technology and telephones, our bidders stuck with us and bought the lots for a total of just over $26,000! Add in the cash donations and you have given us $27,500 before costs to put towards the purchase and installation of a Timing Clock at the Rec Centre for our local swim clubs, Quesnel Aquatics and Waveriders - click on the pictures below to enlarge.

2011: Canadian Cancer Society "Northern Lodge - Rotary Hair Salon & Wig Bank"

After three nights of busy bidding and auctioneering, the 2011 Rotary Radio-TV Auction is in the books...and, once again, our supporters have helped us raise $26,000 before costs.

That support meant we were able to meet our commitment to a donation of $10,000 to the Rotary Hair Salon & Wig Bank project located within the Canadian Cancer Society's Kordyban Cancer Lodge, a regional project valued at $150,000. Added to the $1,000,000 contribution by West Fraser Timber to the Cancer Clinic itself, together with the annual success of Relay for Life, and Quesnel can be justifiably proud of the contribution to the care soon to be available for our community members facing cancer.

The remaining funds were invested in other valuable local projects, such as the extensive "Awareness & Marketing Project" of F.A.R.M.E.D. , including highway signage north and south of town (click on the images below to enlarge).

2010: Energi & Evolv!

The three nights of the 54th Rotary-TV Auction were held 22nd-24th November...and raised nearly $27,000 before expenses.

The Evolv "Stand & Glide" was a near $9,000 investment in a specialized piece of exercise equipment for the Quesnel & District Recreation Centre. A presentation by Quesnel resident Lynn Turner really impressed us as to how the Stand & Glide would be of benefit to a wide age-range as well as addressing many levels of physical disabilities. Thanks to Matt Wood, City of Quesnel, for the great picture. And click here for the article by Quesnel-Cariboo Observer.

We were also able to finish a project 10 years in the making by installing ENERGI activity equipment at West Fraser Timber Park - in total, this was a $22,000 investment! Quesnel has a proven record of being active, so these five pieces are a terrific enhancement to an already wonderful facility.

2009 - Legion Beach

For the 53rd time of asking, the bidding and buying was fast and furious…resulting in our being able to hand over a cheque for $15,000 to help the Quesnel Branch of Royal Canadian Legion make some necessary upgrades to their Dragon Lake Legion Beach campsite.
