sure was a busy month filled with lots of fun events! This month I was fortunate enough to travel and see different parts of Brasil! Also, the district conference for exchange students was this month, too!

Before the district conference, I took a day trip with my school to another state in Brasil! It was in a city called Curitibia in the state of Parana. While we were in this city, we went to see the Opera de Arame (Wire Opera House) and also visited a museum. Then we visited the Oscar Neimeyer Museum. They were featuring an exhibit on Frida Kahlo and her life, which was very interesting. I also learned a little bit about Brazilian art too. Our guide was very see. Our last stop was a University. It was a very fun trip with my classmates!

The District Conference for all the inbound exchange students was a blast! I took a bus there with a few other exchange students from my city and the surrounding areas! When we arrived at the conference, we met so many other students informative. Then, we visited a botanical garden which was very beautiful! I feel very lucky that I got to visit Curtibia this month because it is a very pretty city with lots to! From Taiwan to Holland, there were students from all over the world! It was truly a surreal experience! Everybody was so positive and excited to be together! There are around 50 exchange students in my district in Brasil, and six of us are Canadians!

While at the conference, we swam, ate tons of food, and even participated in a traditional Brazilian party, Festa Junina. There were traditional outfits and hairstyles to go with the party! Some of the boys even wore girls dresses and vice versa. It was truly an entertaining night!

This month I also started my Portuguese classes at the University. I go with several other exchange students. I’m pretty surprised because I’m learning faster than I thought I would! I sometimes understand the subtitles on the TV shows! It’s nice because I can understand more than half of the time what people are saying, but I just can’t respond yet! Hopefully soon!!

In October, my host mom says maybe we will go to the beach, so that’s pretty exciting! I’m going to start going to the tennis club soon, which will be fun!

Here are a couple photos from the conference. Myself and the other Canadians and of course the wonderful Festa Junina party!!

Tchau, and until next month!!    -Olivia
