November 9, 2017 - Michael Gurney, Northwest Regional Heritage Fair

Michael spoke to the Club about his experiences with the Heritage Fair.  This fair is for students grades 4-9.  Similar to science fairs where students research a subject and prepare a presentation, this fair focuses on history.  Michael is excited about this opportunity for young students to become historians and has seen that the experience also leads to young historians becoming community leaders.  He spoke of the diversity that can be seen at the fair with the example of a student participant who was born in New Delhi, now living in Delta, BC, whose project was about the Inuit.  The Northwest Regional Fair began in 2014 held at North Pacific Cannery.

The Northwest Regional Fair (Kitimat, Terrace & Prince Rupert) will take place April 27-28 at the Lester Centre, in Prince Rupert.
