May 4, 2014 ~ At this past Thursday's meeting, Rotarians enjoyed getting to know ELLEN WITHERLY - one of their newest members - a little better.

Born in Seattle, Ellen grew up in the family home that her father built and attended Western Washington State University. She moved to Prince Rupert in September 1974 with her first husband and took a substitute ... click on more

 

 

teacher position. After moving to Smithers and living off the land, she moved back to Prince Rupert where she met her second husband while working at a local law firm. She eventually completed her University Degree by correspondence from the University of Waterloo. 

Changing careers, Ellen worked at Skeena Cellulose as HR assistant and then became the HR Manager at the Northern Savings Credit Union sixteen years ago. Now married to Peter Witherly for six years, they have six children and seven grandchildren between them. 

She enjoys travelling, reading, music, kayaking and quilting. Over the years her volunteer work has included Prince Rupert Options for Women, Transition House, the Concert Society, the Prince Rupert Library Board, Community Band and Choir, Friends of the Library, and is an active member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

A couple fun facts about Ellen include, she saw the Beatles perform in Seattle in 1964, she sang on the stage of the Sydney Opera House and she paddled her kayak from Prince Rupert to Ketchikan
