Lone Star Opry presents Country Music Monday
The Rotary Club of Giddings regrets to announce that the last show of the Lone Star Opry presents Country Music Monday will be on December 5th, 2016. We want you to know how much we appreciate the support of all of our patrons and the citizens of Lee County. Because of you and our patrons, we were able to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships to Lee County high school seniors and to other community programs. Country Music Monday was a Giddings tradition for 23 years and although we are sad to see it end, we are excited about other community opportunities that are now available to the club.
The first Country Music Monday Show was held in January, 1993 and has been bringing people to Giddings for the past 18 years. Our Rotary Club is very proud of the success of this program. It started out as a fundraiser for the club but it has turned into our most successful “Community Service” project. Proceeds are used to fund scholarships for deserving students in Lee county’s three school districts. During the past 18 years, the club has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships!
Scholarships are wonderful and we’re very proud that we’ve been able to have a positive impact on our local youth. It’s all attributable to Country Music Monday. However, Country Music Monday is creating a positive impact on more than just the youth in Giddings… it’s creating an economic impact on the local economy too! Each month, year after year, on average 500 people attend Country Music Monday. That’s 6,000 people a year for the 18 years! Most of the people who attend are from out of town.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. but we have to open the doors at 5:15 because there is a line of people waiting to get inside. They come in, save their seats, and then head into town to eat in the local restaurants. They buy gas, pick up groceries, and shop in the stores. Many attendees and performers travel great distances and stay over night in the local hotels. They come from Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and many of the smaller area towns.
Admission is $5.00 per person
Children 12 and under are free
In addition to providing quality entertainment, the Lone Star Opry is primarily a fundraiser that allows the Rotary Club of Giddings to offer scholarships and other community projects. Income from Country Music Monday has allowed the Rotary Club of Giddings to award thousands of dollars in scholarships to area students. Even though our price of admission has increased to $5, where else can you go and see 5 – 6 performers and a FANTASTIC band for such a low price? Please come join us - you'll have a great time and be contributing to the community at the same time.
Offering a new era of comfort, convenience and great country music, and featuring the latest High Tech sound system and Big Video Screens every seat will offer a toe tapping experience. With huge paved, lighted parking lots including two handicap areas, front door drop off and motorized cart pick up from the parking lots, Country Music Monday is one of the easiest and most convenient venue’s to attend. Country Music Monday has always featured some of the best musical talent in Central Texas. Our modern facility attracts some of the hottest performers throughout the entire region and State of Texas. The show is presented the first Monday of every month.
On March 5, 2013 the Texas House of Representatives passed HB 459, a resolution to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Lone Star Opry and Country Music Monday and recognizing the Rotary Club of Giddings for its ongoing sponsorship of the event.
