Jul 05, 2018 8:45 AM - 3:30 PM
Our Club will prepare and serve lunch at RYLA Camp on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at McKinney Roughs Nature Park in Bastrop. Our Club will sponsor six campers from Jarrell High School this year. This is a great Rotary Service Project and provides an excellent chance to participate in one of our Club's many activities that support the youth in our community and area. VERY IMPORTANT: All volunteers MUST complete the 2018 Volunteer Form. The form is available online on the District 5870 website (or, just click HERE). It takes less than two minutes to complete. Meal preparation will be again be coordinated by Chef Heidi this year. Volunteers need to arrive at the Camp no later than 9:30 am to work. Remember, the "background check" form must be processed by District 5870 before you can volunteer (which means no last-minute signups). Submit the form NOW if you are considering participation. You can always cancel at the the last minute, if necessary, but you can't participate without the required paperwork. |

The Intricate Relationship Between Humans and Other Animals
Aug 07, 2018 12:00 PM
MEETING LOCATION: Cowan Creek (Georgetown/Florence) at noon Dr. Laura Hobgood-Oster has pondered the intricate relationship between humans and other animals for years. Her most recent scholarship focuses on an environmental history of humans and dogs. This culminated in the publication of A Dog’s History of the World: Canines and the Domestication of Humans. The 30,000 year story traces the ways the humans have dramatically changed the planet. She brings her work with dogs and other animals into the classroom in two courses she teaches at Southwestern University. Another way she connects her research with the community is as a volunteer with dog rescue in central Texas. She helps with dog rescue at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter and is the dog rescue coordinator for Georgetown Animal Outreach. |

“What to Do When You Get a Letter From the IRS”
Sep 18, 2018 12:00 PM
MEETING LOCATION: Sun City Social Center (Ballroom) at noon Whether you do your own taxes or have somebody do them for you, all you want is for the IRS to take your money or give you a refund and then leave you alone. But should the IRS come after you, the best thing you can do is have someone like Lynn Parent by your side. Lynn is an Enrolled Agent, a federally licensed tax practitioner authorized by the U.S. Department of the Treasury with unlimited rights to represent taxpayers before the IRS for audits, collections and appeals. Before opening her Austin-based practice, Parent Tax Consulting, in 2011, Lynn spent nearly 30 years on the other side of the desk in collections with the Internal Revenue Service, rising through the ranks to achieve its highest level of Grade 13 Revenue Officer. |
