Why did you join Rotary? Who Introduced you?

When we moved to Prince George from Mackenzie my husband George joined Rotary.  I got to know the Rotarians and their partners.  I really liked the people in Rotary.  We agreed to be a host family the following year and I "drank the koolaid".  I loved the experience of meeting a phenomenal young person from another country.  We have been host parents ever since.  I eventually became the Counsellor for the Inbound Student (you did not need to be a Rotarian) and then I eventually joined the Club because I loved everything regarding youth.  I found that there were so many fantastic programs that Rotary sponsored (RYLA, Adventures programs, Short Term Exchange Program) I wanted to recruit as many young people as I could so that they had the change to experience them.

What is your favorite part of Rotary?

I don't have a favorite part of Rotary - I enjoy all of it.  Youth programs are my passion but I am happy to be involved in the two breakfast programs that we started with two elementary schools.  I like the idea of helping the local community as well as helping internationally.  I like the comradery of the club and I like the fact that we have fun as well as work hard.

What is your main role in the Rotary Club?

This year my main role is Club President.  I am also starting a three year term as Inbound Coordinator where I look after all the Inbound Exchange Students. And of course,  I also help with fun!

What do you do outside of Rotary?

Outside of Rotary I enjoy spending time with my family, golfing and quilting.

Why should others join Rotary?

Rotary is an amazing organization to belong to.  Eradicating polio has been their main focus and there are only about 10 reported cases in the world currently.  If people want to be involved in an organization where things can happen locally and internationally, they should join Rotary.  If they want to make new friends, they should join Rotary.

Keep posted next month as we introduce the rest of this year's board !
