Operation Red Nose is back for its 13th year in Prince George, organized by the Rotary Club of Prince George - Nechako.   They can use lots of volunteers so please contact Kelly Zammit at kellypzammit@telus.net.

Join us to see to see how you can help our 2010 campaign. Last year was a huge success where we gave a total of 796 rides over nine nights during the holiday season. This year we'd like to reach 1,000 rides, but in order to do that, we need your help.

This year, we need about 300 volunteers to drive, navigate and operate phones at Operation Red Nose headquarters. On average, about 15 teams will be on call each evening, (Nov. 26-27, Dec. 3-4, Dec. 10 - 11, Dec. 17-18 and Dec. 31) working from 8 p.m. - 3 a.m. Our volunteers must be 19 years old, have a valid driver's license and undergo a Criminal Record Check.

With the support of the RCMP and ICBC, Operation Red Nose is a free and confidential designated driving service where a team of road volunteers will pick you up and drive you home safely in your own vehicle during the holiday season. It's available to anyone who does not feel fit to drive their own vehicle.

In B.C. new drinking and driving laws come into effect Sept. 20 are making it tougher for those who choose to drive impaired.

Those caught with a Blood Alcohol reading of .05 will automatically have their license suspended for three days and their vehicle impounded for three days. Those caught the second time within a five-year period face a seven-day suspension of their license and their vehicle is impounded for seven days. Those caught with a blood alcohol level over .08 receive an immediate 90-day driving prohibition.
