Introduction to Corsicana Rotary Club
Sep 27, 2017
Here are Gene's beliefs: My main roles as DG fall into four categories... planner, organizer, cheerleader, and Rotarian. Planner. Since I became District Governor-Elect last summer, I have been busy establishing goals to help District 5870 maintain its enviable leadership role within Zones 21B and 27 - in the Public Image and Foundation arenas. I've set up targets and benchmarks I'd like see our individual clubs and the district itself strive to achieve this Rotary year, under the banner of DG One Initiatives. I'll roll these out to all clubs and Rotarians over the next few weeks during my club visits.
Organizer. Whether you realized it or not, there are nearly 800 Rotarians serving in leadership positions in clubs and on the district level. You, of course, selected your own club officers and committee chairs and members, but there are approximately one hundred and fifty resources in District leadership positions to help guide your clubs wherever they face challenges or have questions. And many more hard drivers serve on club committees on all levels to actually be the "boots on the ground" to effect Service Above Self all around our Central Texas district. We are a strong district, and I hope we'll continue to get even better in all endeavors we undertake. This year we'll primarily focus on membership growth and retention.
Cheerleader. Perhaps the most important role I have for 2017-18. I can provide goals. Cheerleading. Guidance. Answers. And perhaps some manpower myself. But the real work - and fun - of Rotary happens in clubs. In individual members. In our working together to MAKE A DIFFERENCE, as our new Rotary International President Ian Riseley has encouraged.
Rotarian. Except for titles, we're all alike. People of Action. Clubs in Action.
