Our board meeting was attended by three red badgers - Susan Crossno, Gage Blackstone, and Jason Hamilton (who is on the board, has earned a Paul Harris, and is a terrific member!).  Susan may be the quickest blue badge in club history as she's planning to attend the social tomorrow night, the joint meeting on Monday with the South club, had her orientation the day she got her red badge, has paid her dues and has been a greeter every week.  That's my kind of Rotarian!

Our board voted on a number of action items:

  • Our annual Christmas party will be held at Vane Hugo's home in Salado on December 14th.  He has a gorgeous home (and we can all carpool!)
  • We are now using $50 of the $75 initiation fee for new members to get them closer to their first Paul Harris by 6 months.
  • We will have our Fall Park Clean Up at Jackson Park on November 2nd at 10:00 a.m.  Immediately following the Clean Up, we'll have a picnic, so bring a dish to pass and bring some kids (any kids, you don't even have to bring your own!)
  • Our club is sponsoring a Global Grant to help renovate the residential structure of an orphanage in the Philippines.  While at the Bi-District Conference, we received pledges from other clubs totaling more than $5000!  We will seek the majority of our funding from the participating districts (Texas, Philippines, and Mexico)
  • We opted not to join two other Rotary clubs who asked us to assist with their fundraisers.  One was for a fruit sale and the other was to sell raffle tickets for a car.  Both were taking place in November which seemed like an awful lot of work when we're going to be busy with the Spaghetti Supper.
  • We have been asked to accept a Youth Exchange student from Hungary, but will not vote on that until we can secure three families to host.  If you're interested, please let me know quickly.
  • We have raised the price of the Spaghetti Supper tickets to $8.  Each member will still be asked to sell 30 tickets.  Those members who don't sell are encouraged to donate their tickets to Barbara Bozon who uses them to furnish dinners to the elderly residents at the Housing Authority.  We do want to make sure all the tickets are used though, so please make sure they either get sold or given to someone who will enjoy "a good meal at a great price!"

We had reports on the following items

  • We would like to help our remaining red badgers make it to blue badge soon.  Please ask Susan Kincannon, Clinton Harwell, Eric Swan, Gage Blackstone, Jason Hamilton, and Kenny McCarty to attend the social on the 19th at the Deadfish Grill, to attend a make up with you at another club, or to attend a board meeting (next one is Oct. 21st).
  • The program calendar is now full through December!
  • Our club has donated $3,280 to the Rotary Foundation this year.  Our goal is $8,600.  Bet we beat our goal!
  • See our facebook page for photos of the new granite markers on the memorial trees at Centennial Park honoring Mary Alice Marshall and Don Gidden.
  • Erik Ray has begun the text message campaign.  It's a nice way to stay on top of Rotary events.
  • Our billboards will be posted in October - look for your favorite Rotarians along roadsides everywhere!
  • Erik Ray would like help from some of the writers in our club to complete the profile he started of Mary Alice Marshall.  Please see him to offer your assistance.
  • The Elementary Service Club at Lakewood Elementary had their kick-off last Friday.  They are rockin' and rollin'!
  • Adam Soorholtz and John Farwell are going to start working with a team from Lamar Middle School to get the Interact club rolling.

Whew!  We were busy and didn't get out of there until way after 1:00.  We've got a lot we're working on!
