A good man has established a great organization in an effort to change the future for at-risk kids on the East side of Temple.

About 7 years ago, Garfield Hawke saw a need to provide a healthy mentor for students on the east side of Temple.  The Unincluded Club arose from the vision.  The Unincluded Club coordinates activities with Temple ISD, Temple College, Temple 4H, the Temple Fire Department, and the City of Temple Parks and Recreation Department.  Students participating in the club are exposed to fitness activities, summer reading clubs, the Young Eagles Program where students go up in an airplace, and career and college field trips including trips to Ft. Hood.  Mr. Hawke said, “I am trying to provide dreams for the kids.”

The organization promotes productive people through codes of ethics, dress, and actions.  Students are taught to be proud for not drinking, smoking, and participating in promiscuous sexual behaviors.  The Unincluded Club teaches a lesson that we can all live by, “Negativity is not an option.”  The Unincluded Club exists due to your donations.  If you wish to make a donation then please contact Lonzo Wallace.

Editor's Note:  Wouldn't it be great if our Rotarians helped Mr. Hawk promote healthy living habits by sponsoring the children in the UnIncluded Club in our 5k race.  If each Rotarian sponsored one student, they could run in the race for free.  Not only does it bring more people out to the race, but it furthers the goal of keeping kids active, involved in positive activities, and engaged in our community.  Give it some thought!
