The Oxford comma is back! Practice safe text, y'all — use a comma before the "and" in your lists.

 

On August fourteenth, speaker Jim Hatch instructed the club on how to publish written works. The greatest challenge is finding the right fit with your editor, publisher, and perhaps even an agent.  Once a publisher accepts your work, get ready to sacrifice your labors of love to the mercy of an slash-and-burn editor.

Beyond the editing and publishing process, Jim discussed many vagaries of the written English language. For example, did you know that a "blond" is male and a "blonde" is female? Or that the British English writers put punctuation outside the quotation marks, rather than inside?

For those not in attendance, your homework is to punctuate the following sentence: "a woman without her man is nothing"
