Rotary Club Initiates Program at Flatonia Nursing Center

MUSIC & MEMORY℠ “is a non-profit organization that brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly or infirm through digital music technology, vastly improving quality of life.”

 

The Flatonia Rotary Club is funding the program in the local nursing center and has taken the latest step by donating and presenting a laptop computer and IPods. The laptop will be used to download from the Internet a nursing home resident’s favorite music and then copy the music to a resident’s individualized IPod for listening. Earlier, a few nursing center staff took part in training on the program.

 

The MUSIC & MEMORY℠ program will benefit residents of Oak Manor that have dementia and memory complications. This program taps deep memories which are not lost to dementia and can rejuvenate participant memories, enabling residents to feel themselves again, to converse, socialize and stay present. The program has completed extensive neuroscience research and the results can be nothing short of miraculous.
