7:00- Meeting was opened with the singing of our national anthem, “Oh, Canada” and the Word of the Day, by Hansi.

 

7:05- Breakfast was served

 

7:15- Introduction of guests: LJ (Gillian's grandson), Arlene (from Chilliwack), Ken Wilkinson, Michael Walsh (our speaker), and little Olivia.

 

7:20- Minutes of the Mic.  Andrew was our standing president again today, Liz mentioned a lawn bowling fund raiser, Liz is also having a house warming party at 703 Prescott St this Saturday starting at 4pm, Kathy mentioned that there will be a Hockey Pool meeting after the Sept. 2nd meeting.

 

7:25- Housekeeping.  Kathy mentioned that there will be a 4 week rotation for the breakfast items (eggs benny, vegetarian cali-style benny, egg burrito, scrambled, and maybe waffles) and that there is additional parking underneath the hotel.  We are also reminded to not park in the hotel guest check-in spaces as there are only three available for hotel guests.  Monica mentioned that she will be moving her office to Surrey.  Finally, Paige mentioned that our new exchange student from Brazil will be flying in today. 

 

7:25- It was Jill's birthday, and we all sang, “Happy Birthday” to her.

 

7:30- Tony collected dollars for the Happy Dollar Bucket.  He gave a public service announcement that he will not be at the Rotary meeting next week as he will be in Vegas with Wendy, Bob, Kathy and Lorna.  Tony also went to a garden party last week in New West, and it was the best garden he has ever seen.  Hansi explains to us where the origin for Rotary's 2015 motto, “be a gift to the world” came from- the international president of Rotary's mother had polio years ago in Sri Lanka.  She needed an iron lung to survive, but there wasn't an iron lung in Sri Lanka.  In a short period of time, with the help of some Rotarians, they were able to get an iron lung from Germany and the mother was able to live.  The international president's mother received a gift from Rotary, therefore, as Rotarians, we should be a gift to the world.   

 

7:45- Wendy introduced our guest speaker, Michael Walsh, a business consultant.

 

8:00- Tony thanked the speaker and Wendy photographed the presentation of the certificate.

 

8:10- Andrew closed with the Four Way Test and a Toast to the Queen by Rick.
