RC Burnaby Metrotown has funded and participated in numerous literacy projects through the years. Most recently, we have supplied Birthday Books for students at Maywood Community School, in Burnaby. This program allows each child in the school to select a brand-new book to take home as a gift from Rotary.

Rotary International recognizes the importance of literacy and basic education, and the month of September is dedicated to promoting access to learning for children and adults around the world.

Studies have found that a child raised in a home filled with books positively impacts future academic growth and job attainment. In short, helping someone learn to read and write effectively and to acquire basic math skills improves the future of everyone in society. Literacy is critical to economic development as well as individual and community well-being. Every economy is enhanced when learners have higher literacy levels.

RC Burnaby Metrotown is proud to support Maywood School's budding readers, and encourages everyone to stay a life-long learner.
