Aug. 20, 2019 5:30 p.m.
UN International Youth Day is August 12, followed by UN World Humanitarian Day on August 19, so what better way to mark these observances than with a visit from an extraordinary young leader: Sameer Esmail. In the spring of 2019, Sameer was chosen by a group of Burnaby Rotarians to attend the 2019 Adventures in Citizenship Program, hosted by RC Ottawa. He was selected from a small group of other top candidates, and his participation in this program was fully sponsored by RC Burnaby Metrotown. Among Sameer’s numerous accomplishments, and what set him apart from other applicants, was his involvement with the Model UN. He has attended ten Model UN conferences, both as a youth participant and as a trainer, and even had the opportunity to participate at a Model UN conference in New York. Recently, Sameer travelled to Malaysia and Singapore as part of Junior Team Canada’s mission on trade and development with Global Vision Canada. Now, on the cusp of the next challenge, as Sameer prepares for his post-secondary studies at the University of British Columbia, Sameer joins RC Burnaby Metrotown and guests to share about his AIC trip to Ottawa representing our club, and his work with the Model UN. This presentation will be held at the Burnaby Neighbourhood House, 3rd floor, beginning at 5:30pm, and everyone is invited. Light refreshments served. Cost: $5 per person, with proceeds to RC Burnaby Metrotown youth programs |
