Great response to new venue and meeting day.

A warm welcome to our Club at our new All Saints Venue.

At our first meeting for the

year the Senior Minister at All Saints Anglican Church, The Ven David Fuller, welcomed our Club and gave us a brief history of the Church. David expressed his joy at being able to host another community group, saying that contact with the wider community is a major part of the ministry of this local church.

We loved the meal!

The first meeting was a settling in experience and AG Francis was invited to give an update re clubs in our local cluster. We also welcomed Michael back from his overseas travels. File Photo

Last week, our Guest Speaker was Katherine Baverstock who gave us some great insights into the work of ROMAC. Amazing stories.

We also had a mini celebration for two "birthday boys" who were willing to share the birthday cake.

PP Ron Myerscough and Andrew Minahan.

Breakfast at Tancks Corner Cafe

Breakfast for fellowship on Sunday 12th February.

THE HISTORY OF TANCK'S CORNER

Yarrambat, originally known as Tanck's Corner had a couple of gold rushes, one before 1860 and the other after 1900. Not enough gold was found to create a thriving township. The town was therefore primarily established by Selectors.

One such Selector was Frederick Tanck. Tanck owned properties on the north site of Ironbark Road. The T-intersection where Ironbark Road meets Yan Yean Road was subsequently known as Tanck’s Corner.

The name of the town was officially changed to Yarrambat in 1929. While the reason for the name change is unknown, the word Yarrambat is Aboriginal, meaning "high hills" or "pleasant views". Something we get to experience and appreciate every day.

A few members with guests enjoyed very nice food and excellent fellowship at this Venue on Sunday.

Two of Joy's grandchildren, Charlotte and Jamie helped to lower the average age of the group and were a real delight. Charlotte soon worked out how to use the "selfie stick" and captured some good pics of the group.

Oops. Missed Kate on the end. She was there though!

Treasurer Frank did a great job of looking over Joy's shoulder as she sorted the bill!

In all it was a great fun morning.

Many thanks or is it Tancks to our Fellowship Committee for the organising and thanks to the young Tancks staff for excellent service.

Response to the eBulletin

It's so nice to have a response to the bulletin.

I sent John a greeting at Christmas, along with many others, and a copy of the eBulletin announcing our new venue. Here is part of an email reply:

Hi David, A belated Happy and healthy New year to Betty , yourself and the members of the Rotary Club of Greensborough. I greatly appreciate you keeping me in the loop with the Rotary Bulletin. Currently I am enjoying the beautiful weather at McCrae . The water is inviting and occasionally I get into it . Hopefully I will be able to make a meeting at your new venue.

fond regards John

The certification puts Rotary's Support Center in the top 10 percent of industry peers that requested evaluation by BenchmarkPortal. The Rotary Support Center received nearly 50,000 phone calls and 84,000 email requests for help last year. "I am so proud and happy to have such a great team who continue to reach higher levels of performance and break new records and exceed the goals," says Howard Henry, Support Center manager. "This...

Five years since its debut, Rotary Club Central is getting a big upgrade
When we introduced Rotary Club Central in 2012, it revolutionized goal tracking and planning for clubs and districts — no more filling out paper club-planning forms or passing along boxes of historical club information every time a new leader took office. Rotary Club Central offered clubs and districts a quantifiable way to begin measuring local and global impact, specifically membership initiatives, service activities, and Rotary Foundation giving. But as with any technological advancement, in a few short years, Rotary Club Central began to show its age, and Rotarians took notice. They...

Rotary International Board adopts new zone structure
At its January 2017 meeting, the Rotary International Board of Directors adopted a new zone structure for Rotary clubs. Rotary bylaws require the Board to complete a comprehensive review of the 34 Rotary zones no less often than every eight years to ensure that each zone has an approximately equal number of Rotarians. The Board’s previous review of the zones occurred in 2008. The Board earlier approved the creation of three regional workgroups to develop rezoning proposals for Asia, Europe/Africa, and the Americas. These workgroups comprised one representative (either a current director,...

Centennial celebration honors 20 noteworthy global grant projects
Through The Rotary Foundation, Rotary members have supported thousands of projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, save mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies. We’ve also led the fight to eradicate polio worldwide. As part of our celebration of the Foundation’s centennial, we’re honoring 20 global grant projects with special recognition. Convention: Southern hospitality
The Atlanta Host Organization Committee is offering some good old-fashioned Southern hospitality at the Rotary International Convention from 10 to 14 June. It has planned a wide range of activities featuring everything from good food and music to inspiring tours of local landmarks. If it’s your first convention, these events are chances to meet fellow Rotarians from around the world, and if you’re an experienced convention goer, you can catch up with old friends. Hall of Fame baseball player Hank Aaron will host Rotarians for a “Strike Out Polio” night at the new SunTrust Park, where you’ll...
