Update on Breakaway Youth
Members were given a moving update about the work of Breakaway Youth by Director Paul Coleman on Monday the 20th May.
Breakaway provides a program of outdoor recreation for disadvantaged young people, primarily 10-16 year olds, for the purpose of improving their lifestyle by providing alternatives, which will give them a sense of achievement and self-esteem. To achieve these aims in an atmosphere of support within a non-threatening environment.

Paul was presented with a cheque for contribution to the Child Safe programme.
Pride of Workmanship Award

Monday Night, 29th April saw up to 60 Rotarians, Teachers, Students from Greensborough and Montmorency Secondary Colleges, and friends attend the Greensborough RSL for the presentation of the Pride of Workmanship Award.

The evening commenced with showcasing the Greensborough Rotary Clubs involvement with youth in our area.
Past president Joy Ferguson introduced our Junior Rotarians of the Month, Abbie Harper and Alex Mitchel andpresented them with their certificates of attendance.
P.P. Joy then introduced our RYLEN attendees, Emily Beasley and Bentley Butler, who both gave a short summary of their experiences at Lake Nillahcootie and thanked the Rotary Club for their involvement in making their experiences possible.

President Zilis was then invited to call Mr Jaden Stenton, Department of Education-Local Information Technology Technician,
from the Montmorency Secondary College, to present him with his Pride of Workmanship Award Shield and Certificate.
Principal of the Montmorency Secondary College, Mr Allan Robinson was presented with a pride of Workmanship Certificate
for display at the College.

Our Guest Speaker for the evening, Dr Nitin Shukla, a Psychiatrist & Psychotherapist, was introduced by Vice President Nalin Perera,
who gave a very enlightening talk on Youth and Addiction and the way the brain interprets various signals and feelings presented by taking foreign substances and compounds. All of those in attendance were impressed with the way Dr Shukla made  his presentation of a very difficult topic to an audience of mainly lay people.
Interact at Greensborough College
This fledgling club has just celebrated it’s first year of endeavour under the leadership of their facilitator Heather Dear.
During the year they have been involved in organising  a Krispie Kreme donut fundraising drive,  participated in Relay for Life.
They also attended a Ten Pin Bowling  night,  arranged by the Rotaractors for the 4 Interact clubs in our district. This was attended and thoroughly enjoyed by 30+ students , supervising Rotaractors and 3 Rotarians together with District Youth Committee Chair Gordon Hastie, who traveled from Kilmore for the occasion.

Most of the 12 Interactors have been on a visit to DIK - Donations in Kind with their teacher and with Pres Zilis Hardiman on one occasion.
Many of our Rotarians have yet to visit DIK, myself included and I plan to assist with the next group of students.  Why not join us?

Our club has sponsored, 2 groups of 2, Junior Rotarians of the Month, 2 year 10 students to RYPEN weekend
