The inaugural David Ling Awards were presented to two Masters Graduates at the University of Melbourne on the 12th December.Established by The Board of the Rotary Club of Greensborough at Club Changeover in August 2024, the annual awards recognise a student in each of the Audiology and Optometry departments on alternative years. The award provides a certificate and a $1000 gift to the recipient. This year the University chose two graduating s tudents to share the award. The presentations were made by President June Anderson and Secretary Ravi Corea. Ravi described the event as a good mix between the formality of the graduation ceremony and the fun and fellowship of the occasion. The Rotary Club of Greensborough and the University of Melbourne have collaborated for many years to provide hearing and vision tests for children aged between 3.5 and 6 years old. David Ling has managed the notices and bookings for over a decade and, in recent years, established an email system of notices to more than 70 kindergartens and child centres and an online booking system for parents to register their children. On average about 60 children are tested in each of two sessions per year. Recent Testing has been undertaken at Kalparrin Early Intevention Centre in Greensborough and Melbourne City Mission personnel  have helped with the organisation of the day since they acquired Kalparrin. |
