Club visit by the District Governor

President Kate comments: Wonderful to receive a visit from DG Tony Bramley, Pam and our AG Francis today. We had a bit of fun wearing orange in support of Pam Bramley preferred charity - Orange Sky.

The event started with a session with the Board in which opportunity was given for us to share some of our projects for the year and to answer questions about a number or administrative areas of our Club.

DG Tony encouraged us in a few of areas and offered any support needed throughout the year. We were reminded to use the District Directory and communicate through our AG Francis.

One item of strong emphasis from the DG was the matter of Child Protection and the need for all members to have completed a "Working With Children" check.

The meeting with the Club members that followed was well attended and we were able to test the capacity of our new venue to accommodate the larger than usual numbers.

There was an evident display of the colour orange in support of Pam's  preferred project which is Orange Sky.

International Committee Meeting

The International Committee met on Sunday 14th August at the home of Nalin and Marina Perera.

As usual the hospitality was top notch and a good time was had by all. At least one participant confessed to being there for the food. He was not disappointed.

Several projects were discussed and submitted to the Board at its Meeting on the 16th and four of these have been approved for presentation to the Members.

Watch this space and come to lunch time meetings to hare more about these.

Special Guest Speaker

Syrian Refugee - Omar

Excerpt from Banyule100 website:

When Omar is speaking, he becomes animated with enthusiasm and eagerly asks for my opinions.

Omar and Saad’s family escaped Syria by travelling through Lebanon, Egypt and then on to Melbourne. Omar describes the journey as ‘long and scary, we were almost caught more times than I can count.’
