Laura Peterson, Morning Rotary President and Nursery Sales Manager at Agrecol, talked about the importance of native planting and the importance of pollinators. Between 75-95% of all planets on Earth need help pollinating. Or, 1 out of every 3 bites of food we consume requires pollination is another perspective. The damaging effects of pollution, chemicals and habitat loss on our environment can be helped by taking action on our property and community such as growing native plants which are good pollinator plants. Native plants 'evolved in place' and have much deeper root system to thrive in the original environment. Some imports can be come an invasive nuisance, like Buckthorn or Emerald Ash beetles. The DNR has a list of non native and invasive species. Fall is a great time to seed a landscape. These are some suggestions: Butterfly weed, Prairie Phlox, Bee Balm, Prairie Smoke, Culvers root and purple Coneflower.   Agrecol is a native seed and plant nursery with 700 aces of plants for seeds.
