Dr. Timothy Shigur and Jerry Schuetz spoke to us today about the Crisis Communication Plan in place for Milton School District. Plan, prepare and provide leadership in critical incidents is the goal of the plan, The interagency team that meets monthly to review procedures consists of School Administrators, and Directors of Technology, Student Services, Building & Grounds, School Nurse and Social Worker, and 4 law enforcement professionals.         The Plan focuses in 3 core areas of School Safety: physical, emotional and structural safety. While the Plan is a guiding document to be followed, it's not "the 10 Commandments", every situation is different, as they illustrated by reviewing steps taken during the Jakoubowski incident. They developed and use the ALICE response protocol and practice it twice a year. They have used 2018 DOJ Grant money ($337,000) to start purchase Raptor Technologies IS system in the Schools, and adopted a 'buzz in, check in, wait' system where the Student is brought to the Office instead of allowing visitors access to the building. Lockdowns were designed to help with outside threats, and the District is working on way to help Students avoid disconnection, and improve communication through emergency text alerts, website and social media, and emergency radio communication.
