Martha Carver from Rock Prairie Montessori School was our speaker today.
Rock Prairie Montessori is a non-profit, non denominational school (designed by Mick Gilbertson!) started in September 1994 through the efforts of several parents seeking an alternative education for their children.  Rock Prairie Montessori’s program purpose is to operate a child centered school for children in accordance with the Montessori Method to encourage the development of every child to his or her maximum potential and to aid parents/guardians in the education of the child by involving them in the school. They have had sustained 6% growth every year and have 148 Students going up to 6th grade. They want to add a middle School 7th and 8th Grade program. Martha discussed the challenges and needs  adolescents face. Dr. Paul Epstein (https://www.montessori.org/author/paul-epstein/) will be giving a talk on Adolescent programs on 4.25 at 6 PM and everyone is invited to attend.
She discussed the commonalities between RPMS and Rotary- besides geography- that include service before self, having a distinctive impact on community, donating time and service, being global citizens with global understanding, and promoting peace. As we discuss more of a partnership between RPMS and Camp Rotamer, she noted that the School would like to partner more with Rotary because of our shared values. The private School model is being challenged by being tuition driven vs. remaining competitive, changes in education, children and family structures. If you would like more information, please contact her at mcarver@rockprairiemontessori.com
