Dave Arndt, Haiti Outreach, and a challenge to Janesville Noon Rotary
In 2005, Dave and Bob Kimball rallied our Club for support to Haiti Outreach and building a water Well in impoverished Haiti. With a per capita income of $791 and surface water polluted, many Haitians lack the most basic resource for life and health: clean potable drinking water. Haiti Outreach, a 501(c)3 was founded 20 years ago to increase sustainable access to clean water through community initiated well projects. They focus on development, versus temporary relief Dave and Bob have traveled to Pignon 4 times  to help with projects, and our Club gave HO around $20 K in support through voluntary donations between 2005-2008. Back then, the cost to build a well was around $2500- today the cost is $18 K. Dave has challenged our Club: If we raise half the cost, $9K, Haiti Outreach will match it. Our Board has pledged $4500 to this project, leaving us $4500 to raise privately in 2019 for a 2020 build. When Dave was first bringing this need to our Club in 2005, Rotarian Ted Walton suggested that he ask for $1 per year of age from each Member. That's a small ask- can you donate that (or more!) to this humanitarian effort? Checks should be made to the Foundation and specified for this project. Dave shared slides and memories from his "life changing" trips to Haiti and the impact a fresh water Well can have on a community. Each family is required to become a Member for $1.35, and pay a monthly fee of $.35 to have access to the Well. Next time you turn on your tap, consider how your life would be impacted if you didn't have access to this basic need. You can learn more about Haiti Outreach here: https://www.haitioutreach.org/about/whoweare/ and you'll be hearing more abut this project as fundraising continues this year.
