  • Janesville Rotary Foundation Mission Statement (revised 2020)
The Janesville Rotary Foundation enables Janesville Noon Rotarians to provide service to others, support education and provide financial support to charitable endeavors within our community, our country and the world. This is the operational arm of our Club that supports all the programs we fund.
  •  February is our Give From the Heart campaign for our Janesville Noon Endowment Fund. As this endowment fund turns 10 our goal is to add $25 K annually for the next 4 years to double these assets.  We use 4% of a 3 year rolling interest total annually to support our Foundation budget. Contact Vicki on donation information.
  • Are you following our members on their Haiti trip through our FB page? Great pictures and information is being shared.
  • We will be selling our Flags as we make way for a new design. You may purchase one for $10 at a meeting.
  • Mandy thanked the following members for their Club contributions: Tami for her hard work on 2020 RYLA program, Lisa for attending the Grants Seminar so our Club will be eligible in 2020-21, and Janet for assuming the role of  YEC for our Youth Exchange program.
  • Our Community Grants application period ends this week. These Grants will be awarded to 6 programs next month.
  • Please sign up for the social outing planned at Conway & O'Riley's for our 5th Monday in March. Corned Beef is offered but not mandatory!
  • Cassie is planning to introduce a monthly Brunch opportunity at Coachman's Inn where members can not only enjoy a delicious meal but brainstorm about AFTER focus and the future of our Club. More info will be forthcoming.
  • Terry Cisler sends greetings to everyone!
  • The $21 pot was won by our guest Sandy, JP of $627 rolls over.

Abraham Rair Garang was our speaker today talking about his Sudan homeland. He shared this historical video with us before sharing his experiences. Many of us may not be familiar with the history of Sudan, and there are other good videos available to learn from, including NPR and the Economist.

Abraham was born in the small village of Langkap and lost his Father at a young age. He spent 12 years in a refugee camp before connections made through social media gave him the opportunity to come to the USA. You can learn more about his history though the FB page, Help Abraham's Family. The economy in the world's newest Country is weak and unstable with high unemployment and 300% inflation. Oil provides 98% of the revenue to the Country where most of the population live on $1 a day. Life expectancy is around 57 years and there is high maternal and infant mortality. Many areas have no electricity or fresh water and sanitation is a huge problem. Since the start of civil war on 2013, the numerous tribes and factions in the South and North have committed atrocities that are detailed elsewhere, including https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Sudanese_Civil_War. Abraham hopes to be able to help his remaining family when he competes his education at UW Whitewater. He included his home address and phone number if you would like to reach out to him.
