Todays Meeting
- Happy birthday this week to Mark Lorenz on 8.12 and Paul on 8.13!
- As a reminder: no meals will be provided this month. Derek said a survey will be sent to ask for your input- please respond.
- PLEASE RSVP to Danielle for the Tee Shack social at 9 AM on Sunday on 8.14 if you intend on coming so she can give them a head count. RSVP by Thursday-
- You also need to RSVP to Dave Warren if you want to attend the next Supper Club fellowship at Duck Inn next Wednesday 8.17. He extends a special invitation to those members who have been joining our meetings via Zoom. We'd love to see you in person- if your schedule allows, come join in the fun!
- We had a slew of guests today with many Youth Exchange connections. Our past Exchange student Peter Boman from Sweden (whose stay was cut short by COVID) is visiting with his family, including his Mother, Father who was a Youth Exchange student (NYC) and has been a Rotarian for 25 years, and 2 Sisters, both of whom were Youth Exchange students (Texas and CA). Shannon brought her daughter Elisa who was an Exchange Student in Chile, and Louisa, who she hosted as an Exchange Student from Germany in 2017. I also think I saw her mention to Peter's Father that she knows his Rotary Club's District Governor in Sweden. Rotary connections make this a small world indeed!
Speaking of Exchange Students, our incoming student Rosie (Valai?) from Budapest arrives on August 24th. She is 17, loves living in a large city with cultural experiences, and ready to come experience  life in Milton, WI. Her Mother is an art director/designer, and her Father has an Executive Search consultant business. She is signed up to play tennis, loves theatre, art, paining, baking, and new places. Have you asked for a background check form from Dan yet so you can help show her fun experiences while she is with us? The time is now to get that done. Rotary requires a background check to transport a student one-on-one.
- Our fundraiser sale deadline is fast approaching! No Calendar sales can be done after our first winner drawing on 8.22. 750 of the 1000 we hope to sell are out with Rotarians. Please promote this opportunity on any social media you use (and share our FB page!), your friends and neighbors, co-workers, people you pass on the street, etc. More tickets can be picked up at JAX Printing. Bring in your sales and entries next week, or by 8.22 absolute latest. If you've secured a sponsorship commitment, NOTIFY Rick by next Monday, 8.15, so they can be acknowledged in our Drive Through materials.  We need more volunteers to help the morning go smoothly- sign up on the email Heather sent around. We need all hands on deck to help this run smoothly. Dust off your Rotary Corn Roast gear from whatever year you have and come outfitted to show our Rotary pride.
- Liz reminded us that United Way Blackhawk Region's Day of Caring is  coming up soon. If you want to register your agency for a project, or volunteer to work on a project that day, get your requests in by August 12th! The kickoff is going to be held at ABC stadium on 9.14 and will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the merger of UWBR. For more details visit https://liveunitedbr.org/
-Tomorrow is Election Day- don't forget to VOTE!
- 50/50 was won by Peter's Mom

Red Badge reboot
You may be asked to give a 2 minute 'Red Badge' refresh at an upcoming meeting. Why you joined Rotary or what you value about being a Rotarian, or a personal update. Today Rick Mueller went first. He's the owner of JAX Printing, a 25 year member of Janesville Noon Rotary, and our Sargent At Arms! For Rick, the most important thing about Rotary has been service and the enduring friendships.
