New Member Red Badge Introduction
Today we inducted into Membership Danielle Jones, who then told us a bit about herself. She works for Country Financial and lives in Beloit with her Husband and 3 children ages 9, 12 & 16. ( new Corn Roast Volunteers?) She loves traveling, hunting and remodeling projects with her husband ("gut jobs"). Growing up, her family didn't have much but wanted for nothing and this helped forge her passion for helping others plan and prepare and take care of the ones they care about. She joined the Army in 2004 and developed determination, along with some good exercise regiments that come in handy for parenting! Make a point of welcoming Danielle into out Club and learn more about her interests an goals as a member of Rotary. Welcome, Danielle- we're glad you've joined us!
Today's Program

  • Guest Andy Parrish from APTIV was on hand to show us how our Presenting Sponsorship of the MissRemarkABLE Pageant  helped the event last year. The event raised around $20K, though fundraising isn't the main goal- the Pageant gives exposure to APTIV and builds confidence for the women who participate.
  • The Janesville Jets game this Friday will be fun- remember to bring canned goods for ECHO and help fill the bus so we can fill the shelves!
  • Supper Club Fellowship outing at the Duck Inn  is on Thursday 1.30 at 6:15.
  • Our fellow Rotarian John Andrews  had some health issues this month but his wife Raye reports he is recuperating and should be back in a few weeks. If you weren't at the meeting to sign a card you can send one to his home.
  • Still accepting $ donations for the children's orphanage and clinic during the trip to Haiti. If you would like to help, bring in a donation next week.
  • Our Community Grants application is open until the end of February. The application is on our home page and a link is pinned at the top of our FB page. Please like the posting which is posted at the top of the feed, and share it on your own FB page to let your friends know about the opportunity.
  • The $20 weekly was won by Gary and JP of $541 rolls over.

Our speaker today was Abigail Martin, the 72nd Alice in Dairyland. As Wisconsin's agriculture ambassador, her goal is to educate audiences across Wisconsin about the $88 billion economic impact and importance of our state's diverse agriculture industry in our daily lives.

Abigail is from Milton and has a passion for all things Wisconsin: good cheese, the Wisconsin Badgers, and her Wisconsin farm family. She is the fourth generation on her family’s registered Holstein farm. It was there that she found a love for dairy cattle, and long summer days at the county and state fairs. Her interest in agriculture led her to pursue a degree in dairy science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On campus, she was involved in the Association of Women in Agriculture, Badger Dairy Club, Collegiate Farm Bureau, and was on the intercollegiate dairy judging team. She has held previous roles in marketing at the Rock County 4-H, East Central/ Select Sires, and the Babcock Hall Dairy Store where she learned how to make cheese.

Alice in Dairyland is a one-year, full-time public relations professional employed by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (WI DATCP). Each year, Alice in Dairyland travels more than 30,000 miles throughout the state, promoting Wisconsin agriculture to various audiences. Additionally, she conducts hundreds of media interviews, speeches and school presentations.

During a single year, Alice develops and delivers at least:

  • 60 TV Interviews
  • 150 Radio Interviews
  • 1,000 social media posts
  • 60 print articles
  • 100 tailored speeches
  • In Wisconsin 1 in every 9 jobs is related to Agriculture in some way. She spoke of the diversity and leading role our State has in the production of Ginseng, Cranberries, Corn for sileage, Mink pelts, Snap Beans, and of course, Milk. We have more milking diary Goats than any other State, and grow the largest Potato crop of any State (East of the Mississippi, that is). The next Alice will be selected during the 3 day process in nearby Walworth County. Her message includes buy LOCAL! Support Rock County and WI farm producers!
